Damper tube removal from shock
« on: October 22, 2009, 10:09:31 pm »
Does anyone know how to get the damping tube thingy out of the rod on a 1981 kyb shock ?
It's seized and I can't alter the damping.
Is it pressed in ?
bit stumpted, don't want to break it.

Once you have the shock apart you need to removed the piston etc and the the end piece that holds the piston on .There will be a tapered needle , thats what usually siezes.Just pull it out and cleanit up , probably need a new O ring around it.If it doesnt come easy take the clevis off the other end off the shaft remove the inner rod and use another disposable rod (like welding rod) to carefullt tap end needle piece out .
