General Discussion / Re: OzVMX is here to stay
« on: October 02, 2016, 12:46:22 PM »
Well done Kenneth. There are some things that need to be saved from the wrecking yard and this forum is one of them. I had a great time when I was a regular on here and I too met a lot of good folks on here. I've moved on from VMX to enjoy other pursuits but still enjoy the bikes and the people so I'll probably still pop in from time to time.

General Discussion / Re: OzVMX to close
« on: September 02, 2016, 04:02:53 PM »
I was one of the originals on this forum and for years loved mixing on here with many of the great people involved in VMX. I made many friends (and sadly, some enemies) on here and well remember some of the great discussions such as the Suzuki footpeg saga, the never ending American Eagle/Sprite/Alron thread and many more. I loved going in to battle over things I felt needed nutting out and sometimes got a little heady and would have a hissy fit and leave. I always came back, that is until the last time when after me venting my spleen on some long forgotten subject I got a PM telling me that nobody cared about pre 75 any more and that I and my fellow pre 75 enthusiasts were old dinosaurs. I was a bit taken aback and went away to think about it for a while. Unlike before when I'd come back after a cooling off period, this time I never came back. Oh, I did come back for the occasional post or two but unfortunately the mojo was gone. Certain elements in the sport had ruined it for me and had almost destroyed a good friend of mine with their constant barrage of criticisms of his rule decisions which made me realise that the sport I had started in Australia in 1988 and dedicated nearly 30 years of my life to had changed for the worse. I felt a stranger. I'm only back here today after being told of the sites imminent closure, to thank Graeme for the huge effort he put into this forum and the other offshoots of it. At one time it was the best VMX forum in the world but now it's a mere shadow of it's great years. Sadly, OZVMX's time has come.

I like to try Firko's Hindel framed YZ A and hope it has all the good stuff from the YZ A but none of it's handling problems.

Yeah Mick, I'd like to have a ride on that as well. We should talk him into taking it to Broadford.

When I get my interest in VMX back I'll get stuck into the Hindall YZ-A and both of you blokes are welcome to race her. Broadford might be a stretch. Once the house renos are done I'll be finishing the Shell 750 flat tracker and sorting out the 360 Yamaha framer. At the pace I build them these days the Hindall should be up and running in 2019.

I'm curious to know the tyre thing too Pete & Foss. I disagreed with it last time and opted not to attend but really want to enter two bikes this year. We've already booked our accommodation.

Love the Parilla. Very cool but not sure the front mudguard suits.

General Discussion / Accommodation in Temora
« on: June 07, 2015, 01:44:25 PM »
What's the hot ticket for accommodation for the Temora CDT Nats in September? I've made a tentative booking at the caravan park by the airport, have I done the right thing or is there somewhere closer to the track? We're over camping unless we absolutely have to...it's an old bones/arthritis thing ;D. We were making plans to travel west for the MX Nats but with Temora on the same weekend it became a no brainer. I'm supporting the push to get enough pre 65 250's to constitute a championship class with my Montaco and if time permits, my Hindall Ducati. I'll also enter my Yamaha 360 short tracker but may put a 250 in it so it won't have to run with the 500's.

Bike Talk / Re: Early Alloy Tank Identity Help

Ooops...it's the Maico tank made by Lyta. Different profile to the Husky version that the works riders used in the late 60's.

I think it's a Husky works tank made in the UK by Lyta Mick. I gave one to Husky Pete for his Husky.

There was a time when the lead up to Classic Dirt would go on for page after page.......What happened? Is everyone going but are too cool to talk about it or what? I came on here to get all sorts of updates and a bit of inspiration but there's not much going on. I really hope the vintage community support this great event, the organisers go out on a limb for us every year and I reckon it needs to be maintained as the most important event on the VMX calendar. Klub Kevlar will have the usual large variety of bikes and we will be having a hoot as usual....no blender this year unfortunately.

There is a different way of looking at a shed full of unfinished bikes.

Check out the old farts on the retirement village adverts on tele and be glad that you have 2 lifetimes of projects in front of you.
If the highlight of your week is Thursdays lunch special at the RSL then you may as well be dead I rekon.

I've been involved in the VMX scene for 29 years, pretty much longer than anybody else. In that time I've restored or built from parts over 40 bikes. I've also been retired from work for nearly 10 years and retired from racing for 15 years so I've have finally realised that there is far more to life than motorcycles, old or new. For twenty years the bloody things dominated my life, I still loved to manhandle a sidchrome on a bike project but the heart pumping passion has faded. There comes a time when Thursday lunch at the pub with my mates, walking my little dog in the park or a cruise in my classic Ford Ranchero bring me me contentment and happiness. I genuinely love seeing you guys being so dedicated to your bike hobby and really hope you all keep at it for a long time yet but eventually a time will come when it doesn't seem as important as it once was, that's when it's time to move on to other stuff. I still love old dirt bikes and will still build them but it won't have the priority it once had. There is too much travel to experience and new things to try before I die.

Yamaha / Re: Yamaja IT 250/465 J tail light lens.

Thanks Steve, I just purchased the tail light you linked me to. It looks like it might be close...if it doesn't work I'll pass it on to someone. I want to get the IT up for CD11.
