Thanks Guys,
Without doubt it is an X.   Not sure what happened with the numbers and It doesn't appear to have a frame number.  these are what Vintage Suzuki have up.

 Model           Frame Number                        Engine Number

1976   TM75A    TM75-27488 to RM80B    TM75-27778 to RM80B
    RM100A   RM100-10001 to 16021    RM100-10001 to 16023
    RM125A   RM125-30001 to 43982    Not Applicable
    RM250A   RM250-10001 to 20994    RM250-10001 to 21012
    RM370A   RM370-10002 to 17938    RM370-10002 to 17945

1981   JR50X   LN1JA11A_B_100001 to LN1JA11A_C_100000    JR50-______
    RM60X    JS1RB11A_B_100001 to JS1RB11A_C_100001    RM60-______
    RM80X    JS1RD11A_B_100001 to JS1RD12A_C_100001    RM80-______
    RM100X    JS1RE11A_B_100001 to N/A (no RM100 built in 1982)    RM100-______
    RM125X   JS1RF11A_B_100001 to JS1RF11A_C_100001    RM125-______
    RM250X   JS1RJ11A_B_100000 to JS1RJ12A_C_100001    RM250-______
    RM465X   JS1RM11A_B_100001 to JS1RM11A_C_100001    RM465-______

The motor was rebuilt just before I bought it so I have no doubt it was done correctly so no worries there.   Just have to find time to ride it now.

Thanks
Pete

I have a 81 RM250X and the engine number is RM250 - 10120.   If I'm reading the list of engine numbers correctly this belongs to a 76 RM250A but it is definitely an X  the clutch arm, crank case , cylinder and reed are all X.   I know the X has a problem with the main bearings chewing out the cases and I wonder if someone has done something fancy to get around it.

Or am I a Twat, that's reading the engine number list wrong ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Talk / RM Reed Block

When reassembling a RM reed block should I apply some gasket goo or just rely on the rubber ring that is built in ?   It's an 81.

Thanks

Hi,
Still new at restoring  :o    Is there are place/shop in Oz where I can get some reeds for a 81 RM250 ?    I would prefer to use a local supplier if possible.

Thanks.

Right through the mid range, almost felt like the choke was stuck on, but that seems to be ok.

Tech Talk / RM250X Jetting Question
« on: December 27, 2014, 08:50:36 pm »
Hello All,
My RM250X [81] is running a bit rich, I have striped down the Carby and the only thing I can find is the the needle jet is a R9 rather than a R8 despite the manual saying R8 is as rich as they go.     The clip on the needle has 2 more rings to lean it off a bit, will that be enough to compensate or should I get a leaner needle jet ?

Wont be able to test ride it for another couple of weeks so just trying to save some time.

Also I'm considering buying a single sided air-box [Works replica]  for no other reason that it will be easier to access the carb etc the current air-box set up is a shocker.  Has anyone any experience with them before I spend my hard earned money ?

Just returned to MX after 30 years out of it, but things are starting to come back to me.

Thanks

Hey Everyone,
I raced MX back in the 70s @ 80s in the Northwest, did a couple of races in Perth but mainly just riding in the bush around Tom Price.   I have recently bought a Suzuki RM 250X from Barry who I see is active in this forum.   I plan to ride it in 2015 in some veterans events [just look for the overweight guy going slow on the RM]  The Vinduro sounds like fun as well.

The Motor and shock have both been rebuilt and I have cleaned up the tank etc, but will complete the restoration later next year, just have to get a tow bar on the car now and wondering how to tell my wife we need to move house so I have a bigger workshop.

A lot of it is coming back to me now, the bike is running rich so will have a look at the jetting, but any advise will be more than welcome.
