Any shutdown is caused by Democrat intransigence. Like it or not Trump received a mandate to build a wall.

You mean the mandate where trump got about three million less votes than Clinton? The shutdown that trump said he would be  proud to own?   :-)

Can anyone tell me if bing main jets are rated by size or flow? Is a 185 main for example a 1.85mm orifice?

It's not much help I know.…  on my maico 440, just in terms of the number stamped on the jet, a MK2 40mm amal compared to a 38mm VM mikuni, the mikuni pilot jet is roughly 100% larger, the amal main jet is about 50% larger.

The heat range of both is 8, regardless of design parameters. Not sure what you're chasing?

My question, for the same given length of porcelain, is it a hotter plug if more is protruding into the combustion-chamber (exposed to more flame)' or a colder plug (exposed to cooling mixture before ignition).

Well my 2c opinion is  8's is 8's and 9's is 9's regardless of construction. Protruding or not if its been labeled an 8 by ngk then that's what it is. :-)

If you look at a plug heat range conversion chart it will for example, tell you an ngk 8 is a denso 24. No mention of any other factors.

You might choose a different construction tho because of considerations other than heat range.

If it were me and I'd twice been sent the wrong thing from a specialist supplier and was only then told the correct part wasn't available, I'd assume there was a non-zero chance they'd get it wrong again. There's other suppliers of billet back plates so I'd ask for a refund.
