Tech Talk / Cant get the stator rotor off!?

Yamaha XT550 pulling the engine down, im stuck or should I say the rotor is stuck, its really on there tight from factory, low km engine, dont think its ever been apart.
Iv tried a bit of heat, I cant get the bloody thing off, its just destroying the bolts on my puller. HELP, I need fresh ideas. Was thinking next step put oxy on it to get it to relax but will most likely destroy the stator. Or maybe try a better quality puller?

Vintage Track / XT500, de rake? Better turning?

Iv decided to play around with the old girl again. Iv got a standard set up 76 XT500, I do a bit of everything with it.
Id really like to sharpen up the steering for dirt track, grass track mx..etc.
Whats my best options, de rake frame? 19" Front wheel? Drop the forks? Different triple clamps?

Hey guys, I know the XT600 engine bolts straight into the 550, does anyone know if the early TT600 engine is also a straight swap??

Suzuki / 81 RM400 vs PE400??

Iv had a big bore Suzuki on my wish list for a while, as iv never actually ridden either (I was born in 81), was wondering what people recommend as a good all rounder for MX, Enduro, Dirt track? Iv read that the PE actually makes more HP than the RM, how did they compare in real life back in the day?? Iv got a few bikes id be willing to swap if anyone has one to move on?

General Discussion / Job vacancy for motorcyle mechanic

Iv been running a small motorcycle repair shop in Brunswick Melbourne for the past 4 years, I do a lot of work on classic Japanese bikes.
I can no longer keep up with the work load on my own so I have a part time position available for someone handy on the tools.
Its not easy finding a suitable mechanic so I thought id try the forum.

Suzuki / Jumps outa 4th and 5th gear?

New problem on the RMX250.
It jumps out of 4th and 5th gear, I havent looked for the problem yet, just wondering if 90s RMs are known for this issue? im thinking worn dogs? or something in the shift mechanism? Not really in the modd to split the engine

Tech Talk / Still blows smoke!

Picked up a old RMX250, was blowing heaps of smoke when I bought it, I replaced crank seal, sleeve and Oring on the gear box side. Still blows heaps of smoke. Im assuming main case gasket is leaking. What else could it be?
