The X11 Michy is a radial and directional, but does it much matter for dirt track?

General Discussion / OzVMX to close
« on: September 01, 2016, 08:37:54 PM »
Dear all,

The time has at last come for me to close OzVMX. I am no longer interested in vintage dirtbikes, and the effort of managing the forum, website and Facebook page are more than I wish to continue with.

The Facebook group is utter shite - I am so regretting ever starting that. It will be closed by the end of September.

The Ning site I never look at and have no idea how it is going, but Ning has now told me that they are increasing the fees for it to well over 2 times as much as I currently pay. Given how hard it was to get support to continue OzVMX this year, it seems unlikely I can raise $1500 in future. The new pricing takes effect from 1 October, so I will close that site at that time.

I should like to close the forum at that time as well, however I have renewed the server account for one more year following the donations received a few weeks ago, so the forum will remain active until July 2017.

Thanks for all the kind comments, support and interest over the 12 years OzVMX has been going. It's been fun most of the time and I had some great times when I was an active competitor in the VMX scene.

Please note I will be out of town over the next week, so will be only looking in intermittently.

All the best to you all.

For Sale / Brand new DC Plastics front guard to suit 79/80 RM
« on: April 12, 2016, 09:46:07 PM »
Brand new, never used front guard to suit RM250/400N/T (and 125 I suppose?). I believe this to be a DC Plastics guard that I bought for my RM250T resto, but the colour was lighter than the rear guard and I liked the darker colour. It looks like it'd be fine for a racer.

$50 plus postage.

Please post interest as an answer to this post rather than as a PM.

For Sale / YZ250T rear hub and brake plate
« on: April 12, 2016, 09:40:50 PM »
YZ250 rear hub and brake plate. This seems to be in good nick but no idea why I have it. A lot of dirt and oil on it, but I cleaned a portion off and it looks like pretty good paint underneath. Brake plate comes with lever, cable and brake shoes with a fair bit of meat on them. No bearings or spacer tube.  The bushes in the brake plate seem fine.

I believe it to be for a 1987 model YZ250 (wreckers markings), if so it fits the following:
1983 YZ250K REAR WHEEL YZ250K L
1985 TT600N REAR WHEEL
1985 YZ250N REAR WHEEL
1986 TT350S REAR WHEEL
1986 TT600S REAR WHEEL
1986 YZ250S REAR WHEEL
1987 MOTOCROSS - YZ250T REAR WHEEL
1987 TT350T REAR WHEEL

$75 plus postage. Please post interest as an answer to this post rather than as a PM.

For Sale / NOS Throttle cable - RM100?
« on: April 08, 2016, 09:22:04 PM »
I have a NOS front brake cable, which I think is for an RM100. It has the number 40220 on it, and according to Partzilla this is a front brake cable for a 79-81 RM100 (58110-40220). I've never had an RM100 so can only assume it was sold to me for one of the RMs I did have (RM125M, RM250T, RM400N).

What this cable might fit I cannot say, but looking at the parts diagrams the RM100 is it... Maybe an RM80 of the same period?

Anyways, $30 postage included (within Australia) if you are interested.

For Sale / Magazines for sale - VMX, Classic Dirtbike, some 90s ADBs
« on: March 29, 2016, 08:02:31 PM »
I need to clear some space so some of the horde of magazines have to go.

VMX magazine, issues 26 to 64. Excellent condition (most read once only). $220 for the lot (postage included within Australia). if they don't go as one lot I'm open to selling in smaller lots or single issues, will give it a few days and see how I go.  *Sold pending payment*

UK Classic Dirtbike, seven issues, numbers 3,6,7,8,9,10,11.  $35 (postage included within Australia).  *SOLD*

ADB, approximately 40 issues from 1996 to 1999. All in good nick, will only sell as one lot. $60 (postage included within Australia).

Transmoto, 25 issues from 2011 to 2013, excellent condition. $60 (postage included within Australia).

Also, anyone near to Canberra who wants 80 issues of ADB from 2000 to 2009, they are yours for $50 but you'll need to come pick them up cos I don't want to pack and post that many!!!

No PMs, please just answer right here so I can see clearly who gets in first.

Cheers

Competition / 25th Anniversary of Interstate VMX in Oz!
« on: March 23, 2016, 10:15:50 PM »
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of interstate organised vintage motocross in Australia.

This milestone will be celebrated at the Australian Classic Motocross Championships at Harrisville Queensland on 18/19 June 2016, and riders who contested the 1991 event and also compete this year will be awarded a special plaque recognising this achievement.

Those who rode in 1991 and attend this year but don't ride, will be presented with a commemorative medallion. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our great sport, and catch up with old mates.

Please pass this on to anyone you know from the attached program.

General Discussion / Same old dirt, same old FUN!
« on: December 30, 2015, 11:18:53 PM »
As the great magazine proclaims, we do this stuff for fun. Well, most of us anyway. And because OzVMX began as a tribute to Ray Ryan and VMX Magazine, I've tried to keep it pretty faithful to that idea. But in the past few years there's been rather too much not fun going on. I refer to the endless debates about rules, MA, organisations and various personalities in the sport.

While I can see there are concerns and perhaps even genuine problems that need sorting out, this is not the place to do that. I've said it before and I'll say it one last time. Make your own forum/website/FB page, and have it out there. As from 1 January 2016, this forum is now closed to such discussions.

OzVMX is about the riding, the racing, and the fun of old dirtbikes. I want to keep the flavour of OzVMX about that side of things. People should come here to talk about the fun they just had, or to ask questions, get answers, and just hang out with others who love old dirtbikes.

So, no more will we discuss what I'll call 'administration' of the sport. That doesn't mean someone can't ask a question about the meaning of the rules or a particular rule or whatever, but I'll be keeping a close eye on those sorts of threads.

Anyone who does start a thread complaining about the rules or whinging about some aspect of the sport's administration, will find their post deleted, no questions asked.

Carry on.

General Discussion / Merry Christmas to all
« on: December 25, 2015, 06:37:22 AM »
Well, it's Christmas day - the time to be jolly and see family and friends and open presents and eat too much, drink too much, maybe sleep it all off on the couch, then eat too much again. But also a day to reflect on the year that's almost passed us by - 2015 has almost faded into history. Enjoy your Christmas one and all, and make the most of the time you spend with family today.

Now I'm off to look under the Christmas tree - did Santa bring me a new dirtbike? Or is it another box of hankies?

I got this enquiry the other day from a bloke thinking of selling an old Bultaco Alpina. I'm told it's a 360 and in good nick and I assume a runner. he has no idea if they are desirable or not, or what sort of money to ask. My guess was around $1500-2500, but heck what would I know. He might be sitting on a $500 pile of poo or a $5000 classic. Any thoughts on whether these things are sought after?

Tech Talk / wheel alignment in forks - IT175
« on: August 30, 2015, 10:02:44 AM »
I took the front wheel off my IT175G the other day to clean out the hub and check brakes shoes and when I reinstalled it I noticed the wheel is not central in the forks. It is off-centre by maybe 10mm or more, sitting very close to the right hand fork leg. I checked it out, took it apart and put it back together, no change. Yet I do not recall ever having noticed that before.

Examining it closely and I can see why it's doing this, it looks like the boss on the brake backing plate is about 10mm too wide and I could fix things by grinding it back by 10mm or so.  But that's just silly, surely if the wheel is originally off an IT175 which I believe it is it should fit just fine.

Am I just installing this wheel incorrectly (how? It just bolts on in there) or is it likely this backing plate/hub is wrong for this bike?

General Discussion / Who'd be up for a two day MX/DT weekend in Canberra
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:51:38 PM »
Here's a thought. Now, bear in mind this is just floating an idea and I am not suggesting the ACT club will do this, but I am interested in what others might think.

Here in Canberra the ACTMCC has a fruitful relationship with a major earthmoving company which has seen big improvements to the dirt track and the old Kumagutsa MX track. Now that the club has access to a couple of first class tracks along with ample parking/camping space, there is a great opportunity to host a classic meet with a difference.

Would you be willing to come to Canberra for a weekend of classic dirtbike action in 2016? Dirt track on the Saturday say with MX on the Sunday? Maybe free camping and a BBQ dinner on saturday night, perhaps a show and shine or swapmeet. All classic classes to Pre 90.

What do you think? If there's enough interest it might be something to put to the club committee.

Vote in the poll at the top of the page and let's gauge the interest.
