Tech Talk / Honda thread pitch sizes
« on: November 30, 2014, 08:05:34 pm »
Hi Guys,
My recent purchase, an 89 Honda CR250RK had one of the front fender mount holes stripped out. I have had the hole filled and now want to re drill and tap it. It is a 6mm bolt. Firstly, Does anyone know what the standard thread pitch is? I have a 6 x 1mm tap which seems to match the bolt, but it doesn't easily screw into one of the other holes.
Thanks,
Kenneth

Tech Talk / Bead Blasting tips
« on: November 11, 2014, 04:03:28 pm »
Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a large Bead Blasting cabinet and tried it out last night on the sub frame of the 86 KX80 I am restoring for my son Damon. The air supply is from our screw compressor at work, so air volume is not an issue. After messing around with different nozzle sizes, it seemed the large openings, approx 5mm worked better for the 30/60 Garnet, with only enough Garnet in the bottom of the unit to cover the ends of the take up pipes. The process seems slow through, the bulk of the paint is removed in about an 8mm wide strip as I slowly pass the gun over the area at about 4-6cm from the frame, but the areas are not blasted clean, and will need a second go at them.

My questions are:

As the original Kawasaki green paint is about 28 years hardened and some wally has over painted it with black spray paint, is it common practice to rub the frame down first with a paint softener so it strips easier. If so, is there a product anyone has found works well for this? I could use paint stripper but I would imagine that would contaminate the garnet very quickly.

Is 30/60 um garnet the right size to use, or is there a better size for this kind of work?

Do you guys have any tips to make the job more efficient?

Thanks in advance,

Kenneth

General Discussion / Online Entering - What system do you use?
« on: October 28, 2014, 06:06:56 am »
Hi Guys,

I am beginning research for our club on putting an Online Entering system into place.

I am aware of Nominate as an online entering system. Have any of you come across a system you find particularly trouble free, easy to use and low cost?

Thanks in advance.

If you are a Heaven VMX member your Inbox will have been hit hard this week. It is not as bad as it looks.

A group of members who believe after 7 years of discussion and debate, the timing is finally right to include Pre-90 as a race class in Heaven events, has petitioned the Committee to hold a vote on the issue, which has been called for Saturday afternoon Nov 1 at The Lakes circuit.

There are 2 main objectives covered by the vote,

1/ Update the Club constitution to align the classes Heaven VMX supports with the classes MA classifies as Classic and Post Classic MX. This would then include Pre-90 for the 2015 season and beyond.

2/ Update the Club constitution to revise the Committee's role to ensure no classes miss out as a result of including Pre-90 and all classes are catered for fairly and equally.

Here is a summary to simplify what you need to do,

If you can make it to the Lakes, just vote on the day.

If you can't make it to The Lakes, send in your vote by post, email or fax on the forms supplied. You would have received 3 voting forms.

The voting forms relate to 3 separate issues and each form needs to be sent in well ahead of time if you want your vote to count.

Form 1.   A simple numbering anomaly in our constitution we would like to see fixed.

Form 2.   Whether the club should change the existing club constitution to include a Pre-90 class from 2015 by aligning the classes the club supports with Motorcycling Australia.

Form 3.   To ensure all classes are equally catered for and no class misses out, this clause is reworded in a manner where it is the written role of the committee to ensure no class misses out.

It is in the Heaven constitution that for the change to take place, 75% of the members that vote must be in favour of the change. If you are an active member, please exercise your right as a member and take the time to vote. It is important the voting tallies are a true reflection of what the majority of the members would like to see happen in the club's future.

Personally I am in favour of the changes. I believe as time marches on, it is inevitable this must happen for the club to maintain it's membership and remain strong. Those opposed have been successful in delaying the change for 7 years now. It is time to welcome the Pre-90 riders into our club and unite as a VMX community in NSW.
In 2015, when the bikes are more than 25 years old, there really is no argument that these bikes are not 'vintage'. They may not seem vintage to those of us who are 50 something and older, but to the many new active members who are 40 something and will carry our club forward, these bikes are the bikes they rode in their teenage years.

Other states are struggling as membership is diluted across multiple clubs. If we don't choose a united and strong future for the VMX scene in NSW, our future may be chosen for us, and I would hate to see that future for this great club to be drop off of membership and drop off of numbers at race meetings.

There are many Pre-90 bikes lying in sheds or just being ridden in the bush across our state. Let's get these bikes out of storage, off the paddocks, dust them off, and have some race fun with them.

If you would like to read in more detail why we support this change for the Heaven VMX club, please message me with your email, and I'll send you a PDF copy of our reasons why.

Thanks for reading.

Tech Talk / Exhaust Pipe Design Advice
« on: July 06, 2014, 10:01:42 pm »
Hi Guys,

I am fitting a set of Piggyback shocks to my RZ and I need to create some clearance from the exhaust pipe. If I do what I have illustrated on this image in white, will it have any negative effects to how the bike runs?

General Discussion / Heaven Merchandise
« on: June 24, 2014, 09:04:14 pm »
Hi Guys,
I had a member say to me the other day that he wasn't sure if he should contact me directly for merchandise he wanted me to bring to the track for him. Very thoughtful of him, but I am here to help and have no problem being contacted any time for special orders.

So if you want something in particular, feel free to call me on 0411 639 649 or email me at [email protected]. We can't run 1 offs but I can put special orders in the next runs.

We are also always open to suggestions for new items to run as well.

Hi Guys,

We want to put some Vinduro Merchandise together for Heaven Club members who are into the Vinduro scene. Being a mainly Motocross rider, I am not up on the nuances of riding Enduro. Are there any obvious merchandise items you want and what kind of t-shirt prints do you like?

This is the Heaven VMX Vinduro Logo we have developed for you guys,

As I am sure most are aware, the US outdoor season begins this week at Glen Helen. Can't wait! Real 'MOTOCROSS' (Love that word!) Go Chad...

This article written by Jody of MXAs Jodys Box, is a great yarn and tells of how he has added design elements into this weekends track to pay homage to Saddleback's Suicide Hill.

Hi Guys,
Bought myself a blasting cabinet and want to try out crushed walnut shell. Anyone know a good source for this at reasonable prices other than eBay?
Cheers,
Kenneth

Has anyone had a good experience with a US based consolidation and shipping service at reasonable rates? I am more and more coming across US eBay sellers who will not ship to Australia.

I have heard that the originators of the club used Heaven as an acronym for a series of words to describe what the club was all about. Can someone enlighten me as to what those words were please?
