Honda / 82 xr500 front forks spongy
« on: March 16, 2020, 04:10:16 PM »
Is there any mods I can do to my 82 xr500 front forks to stiffen them up they are really bouncy I have put in a stiffer rear spring to sort the back out because you could bottom front and rear easily.

I had some stiffer rate fork springs but they didn’t fit so it is stock front end currently with stock oil height any ideas appreciated, thanks Michael.

Tech Talk / what did I stuff up here?
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:14:28 PM »
Well taking a look at my pe400 after it decided to stop on the weekend I thought my flywheel may have slipped as it had before but no it has lost nearly all compression big time so I pulled the top end down.

so straight away noticed scoring front and rear of cylinder and I didn't take a picture but it looks like the piston ring locating pin is gone so I am assuming that's what has caused the scoring with the ring then having to much end gap?

looking for thoughts will the cylinder need rebore or be ok running the same size piston and what should I look for to make sure it doesn't happen again, thanks Michael.

For Sale / rm500 swap reg enduro?
« on: April 13, 2015, 06:51:59 PM »
I don't use my rm500 enough to justify having it so I would like to sell or swap for a registered enduro bike I plan to have a pe400 as my main registered enduro but I am struggling with time to finish the build on it I paid $6500 for it and it is in the same condition as when I bought I have ridden it maybe three times in my time owning it.

It is 83 with some 84 bits.

Bikes I would consider as full or part swap fairly new 300 wr te exc maybe a nice xr ready for reg 500 600 or 650

It is no stress to me if I don't get rid of it my mate just has been on to me to go riding every weekend and I don't have a registered bike to take I am in Geelong Vic.

Suzuki / tm400 gear lever options
« on: July 20, 2014, 10:43:49 PM »

Suzuki / A pe400 of mine.
« on: May 19, 2014, 08:38:07 PM »
Getting very keen on getting this one done and registered so I can ride with my mates on their new bikes.

I also just bought a pe175 83 full floater I am going to attempt to squeeze a 400 motor into as well I am sure I read ages ago some one had done that if so any chance on a picture I have read the article in ADB magazine of the pe250 in 175 floater so a 400 should also fit seeing as 250 and 400 use the same frame.

Hopefully this might give my mates a scare on their 450's my wr360 did but I wasn't a massive fan of that bike and I ended up selling it, thanks Michael.

Tech Talk / is it ok to cut spokes??
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:56:46 PM »
I have had a lot of trouble with some wheels I have been building for my rd250 all other wheels I have done have been pretty straight forward but these ones are giving me trouble.

I originally bought some spokes off ebay thailand ones first mistake didn't fit properly the rear was terrible the spokes passed so far through the nipples so I bought some stainless steel ones with stainless nipples the front spot on no drama and I have got it nice and true spokes ended up just under flush of the nipple heads.

This is the front.

Spot on big thanks again to yamaico Pete for the rim I had it rechromed and I am very happy with it as my other one had a massive flatspot.

But here is the thing the new stainless rear spokes seem to be a fraction long they are not tight when they are flush in the head of the nipple so to get them tight the spoke would have to come through so is it wise to cut the excess off so they don't stab the tube and I can torque them up.

Also there is a bit of a flat spot any way to eliminate that or is it ok to leave I had the rear rechromed and I hadn't noticed it so it isn't a real bad one but noticable on the truing stand with a slight hop in the rim.
