Does anybody know the difference between the 82/83 piston and 84 onwards?.......part listings on eBay seem to suggest their different.......

Does anybody need some front zed spokes for above before I start chopping a wheel apart.....
Seems a shame to waste these...as horrible as they are..

It kicked back hard and put a large crack in the cover..... 
......I believe that this is a common cover between quite a few models....any help would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Road trip north

4 yrs ago , me mate arno (kraut) and I did a road trip up to Canberra for a heaven meeting,we had a realy great weekend, meeting new people,seeing how it's done on the Northside etc.
Just not to impressed with the track....but fun anyway( please don't take that personally nsw peeps)
Time for another.
So just a little ask for advise,....just a toe in the water.....what events do you have up there ,bearing in mind we love natural terrain, fast flowing types ...what would be worth while doing a road trip?
We are in melbourne and would like some other viper /vcm members to come with us.....who's up for it?

All fibre plates measure up good so do steel ones,adjustment is good all the way back to lever,have tried numerous different fibre plates (none new) tried various oils.....any ideas?

Suzuki / 84 RM500 JETTING

Trying to get this bike to have a decent bottom end is proving difficult,feels a bit like the choke is on a little bit, have dropped the needle down to its leanest position which improved it considerably,put a 30 pilot in it(was 50 standard) improved it some more (wont idle now either)far from cured it though......gets worse as it gets hotter, indicating too rich
it has a massive mid/top end...........but this low end issue is hightlighting a vicious powerband when it finally comes on song......................any suggestions?

A mate at work has bought an 86 yz490 which is running v. poorly,on closer inspection inside the motor it appears to have approx 3mm longer stroke than standard, thus causing allsorts of porting issues ,the most odd one is the exhaust port is being exposed at tdc by appox 3mm by the lower edge of the piston,you can see this when you look up the exhaust port?
??....the pison is on the correct way around before you ask, however, also we believe the skirt has been shaved to avoid hitting the crank webs at bdc.
Why would anybody stroke one of these things.....and more to the point how did they do it,and what else needs to be done to make it work???

Do I remember reading that sombody on here had a copy of the above book,I think there was a thread about it somwhere but I cant find it.Anyway, I would like a copy of the port specs which are in the back of it for the yz250's,could sombody please help?
