Tech Talk / Re: tuning specs
« on: May 18, 2018, 08:17:03 AM »
Thanks for the input guys. Engine has just had a rebuild so new everything-timing is spot on- no air leaks- porting is standard Phantom and the pipe is a standard Phantom type. It runs cleanly with a 38mm Mikuni. With the 34mm fitted and using a 35 pilot it keeps running with the air screw all the way in. I've gone up to a 40 and now it stalls with the air screw in. 1 1/2 turns out it idles however I've not had a ride on it as yet as I'm reluctant to take it out on the road for a test run. I'll need to wait till the Broadford ride day and keep fiddling with it. I THOUGHT it may have been too rich low in the rev range initially due to the blubbering and reluctance to rev till around half throttle, that's about where it clears itself and takes off.

Tech Talk / tuning specs

Would anyone have tuning specs for a 34mm Mikuni fitted to an Ossa Phantom engine? Engine is used in a track bike not on the dirt. I'm having trouble tuning it  in the lower revs- it blubbers and is reluctant to pull cleanly till the revs increase, then it clears itself and pulls well.

Tech Talk / Re: New Ignition System?
« on: September 25, 2017, 04:17:44 PM »
Hi Rod, I read the replies to your enquiry and it was pretty much what I expected. Enough to leave someone seeking advice confused as to what the right choice is. See if you can get either a PVL with the external rotor or if you go for the internal type you are able to get extra weights for them. Either way if there is a PVL for your bike it will work. Who are you getting it from? I use a guy in the states --great service but just be aware of the exchange rate and postage costs.  I use the internal type on an Ossa I use on the track and sure it's a 250,starting using the kicker is no problem. You might loose a whisker of grunt but gain a bit more acceleration. Me personally I don't care. As long as the engine starts and keeps running then I'm happy which is a good thing due to the fact it's a 1971 model and when I take it to Broadford I get absolutely flogged by "modern" bikes:-)

For Sale / Yankee Z
« on: September 16, 2017, 02:54:28 PM »
I've a Yankee Z for sale. This bike presents like new. Not a concourse restoration but rather a nut and bolt rebuild. If you know your Ossa's you would have heard of Keith Lynas. The engine was rebuilt by him,it's never been started. Bike can be inspected by arrangement. Probably too good to flog thru the dirt as it's immaculate. Like the Fischer I have  it would probably suit a collector. The only other Yankee I've only ever seen for sale was on Ebay and it sold for $8500.00,this bike is better than that one.  I will only consider offers above the one sold on Ebay. Engine alone cost 5500USD to have built. There are very few of these bikes in Oz so this is an opportunity to own one.  I would guarantee the engine to be like new. PM me with any questions.. No trades/swaps. cheers Lew.

For Sale / road bike

Hi all, I've got a very collectable motorcycle for sale. It's a Fischer MRX(google it). One of 30 everbuilt. Comes with a few new parts to bring it up to 100% original. 8000Ks on the clock. If sold in Victoria will come with RWC and rego. Due to how rare these bikes are it would suit a collector tho it could be ridden daily. Would suit a person taller than myself. I'm around 5'6"--165cm and it's a bit of a stretch to reach the bars. Parts are readily available from the states at realistic prices due to the fact that most Fischer owners don't use their bikes often,if at all. PM me with questions about the bike. Not interested in trades/swaps.

General Discussion / Yamaha MX 500 Prototype
« on: March 05, 2017, 02:52:14 PM »
I've been offered a Yamaha MX500 that the seller claims is a prototype and one of 15 ever built. It's a complete runner that was raced and put away in a shed for quite a few years. I've trawled thru the internet but all I can find is the SC500 model. Anyone out there shed any light as to the authenticity of this bike. Search using the engine number comes up zero on any Yamaha site, not one bit of information other than peoples opinions on it. So did they actually make 15 of these and how are they identified? Seller certainly appears to be  knowledgeable and says all they right things but I just can get any info anywhere. Ok Yamaha experts what's the general thoughts on this bike.True or BS? If it is genuine any ideas of value? Need a total rebuild as it's complete but rough.

There is a guy in Elmore Victoria that makes decals. His work is really good. Worth getting in touch with. If interested PM me and I'll pass on his phone number.
