General Discussion / 1985 Honda XR 600 clean up (NOT resto!)

Hi Guys
My names Kev and let me start by saying what a great website this looks like, very informative. But the reason I am here is to try and find out if anyone knows of any such websites dedicated to rebuilds / restos and the like. I am currently rebuilding (for the last 1 1/2 years) a 1985 XR 600 and trying to source some parts. If you can steer me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.

Bike Talk / Honda xr vin

Hi  guys ..just a quick question on how to find out what year model my nephews xr250 is..also could you tell us any decent websites that explain what these number/letters mean (I  know J is Japan and H must be Honda ) Nephews vin starts JH8FP....sorry but thats all my old eyes are capable of...cant even make out difference between a 1 or an I on the damn thing..hope to get a reply anyway..cheers Kev

Tech Talk / Still have cr 80 probs

Hi..still have fluctuating spark probs,sometimes large bright spark,sometimes weak spark and sometimes no spark whatsoever.Have had bike looked at by mechanic and now even hes scratching his head.So....what do we know?
1.The stator is fine,so is the spare one.
2.The pulse coil is fine..and spare.
3.Coil is fine as is spare.
4.CDI is fine as is spare.
All these have been tested,but not under load.The mechanic said the odds of all these failing ,and spares as well, are pretty long.We also put a new piston and ring set in as the old one was a bit worn.After we fitted the piston and ring it kicked over and ran for about two minutes...then died again .So,does anyone want to chuck their hat in the ring?By the way Ive just started to read up on the woodruff  key...is this possible? Anyway thanks for reading and any help would be much appreciated.I just want my son to be able to ride his bike!!! Cheers Kev..

Hi..im riding my nephews  2001 yz 125 which i will hopefully be purchasing in the not to distant future..many many many years ago i rode a yz 80 e...first of the mono shocks i think.....

Hi lads...im in search of a stator for the above..hopefully brand new but cheaper than the 275aud that ive been quoted..have rung andy wheeler in gosford for a rewind..120..not bad..also talked to yanks on ebay us..used stator delivered to Wollongong 85 aud..not bad either..waiting for response from my homeland from electrex world on a brand newy..(yes im a pommy ba///rd0....ALSO ASKING YOU LOT ON WHICH WAY I SHOULD GO ON THIS.cheers for reading..Kev

hi everyone..good to see  an aussie vmx site..im only on here so i can pick your brains (and parts) for my youngins cr 80 86 model..hes just learning about mx...unlike me who is deluded and thinks i can ride a mx...anyway my second post will be in the parts wanted thingy..cheers Kev..
