Introductions / Feetupfun is back after a break
« on: September 12, 2022, 10:39:35 am »
I've been missing out on hearing about some things so I'm back.
I'm a twinshock trials fanatic who also enjoys riding old enduro and trail bikes.
My current trail bike is an otherwise standard SP370 with knobbies and a big Clarke tank.
I also ride an (unregistered) model 138 Alpina and am restoring a model 85 Alpina.
I just stuffed my left knee yesterday so will probably be limited to doing workshop stuff for a while.

About 20 years ago, I bought a 1970s Japanese trials bike that already had a set on. One ride on my practice sections and my curiosity was cured. Not even as good as the Japanese originals which were pretty crap. Same issues. Huge springs and ridiculously heavy rebound damping. May have worked OK on a 200kg road bike.

Dungar Pilot on this forum treated a ~1984 plastic Italjet trials bike tank by immersing the whole thing in a big metal tank of petrol. From memory I think it was successful

For Sale / Re: Old magazines
« on: January 08, 2020, 07:00:50 pm »
I would be very interested in any of those mags that have CCM or BSA articles. If you could let me know how much for postage.
Sounds good will do Butcher

For Sale / Old magazines
« on: January 06, 2020, 07:33:16 pm »
A dirt bike riding friend of mine of similar age to me (60) is having a shed clean-out and no longer wants to keep his dirt bike magazine collection. He doesn't want to have to interact with people he doesn't know to get rid of them and equally doesn't want to just put them on a bonfire either, so I've volunteered to give them away.
Here's the deal: if anyone wants one, some or all of them that's cool but thinking of how many dirt bike owners sheds I've seen burned down lately on the news, preference will be to give them to someone who has lost their magazines and might be cheered up by having these.
If you, or someone you know is in this or a similar situation, post up on here which magazines are being sought and why, and I'll do my best.
The location is Gladstone, Queensland.
I'm happy to post them off at cost of postage if someone wants suitably smallish numbers of magazines.
I do travel to rides but not usually further than the Hunter Valley or Townsville.

The person told me that the collection is Trail and Track, ADB and a yank mag but I can't remember which one, starting from when Trail and Track started and more recent productions including Classic Dirt Bike, Classic Trial magazine, Trial Magazine and VMX.

Have a look here at a KT250 front hub

http://www.trials.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11959

It's a lot like yours but the KT is 120mm drum diameter and would need the speedo drive part machined off. I thought the designs were similar enough that yours could also be off a Kawasaki

I wuz there and enjoyed it. There were some teething issues with the new venue.
Show and shine was well supported. The MX tracks looked very slippery after a shower of rain. I set five novice/clubman trials sections and the people who brought trials bikes along enjoyed themselves. The Vinduro loops were enjoyable and popular. It was good to be able to watch twinshock era MX sidecar outfits being ridden around. The flat track was very small and got chopped up severely after it was ridden wet. People were well-behaved. The catering was good. The showers and toilets were good.

Ken has asked me to set some trials sections at CD15 and I'll be bringing along some old trials bikes.

I'll set sections to suit what other trials riders want, so here is your chance to get what you like to ride  8) otherwise it will just be what I think is right while wearing my devious section-setter's hat.
Please post up any special requests for the sections and also how about what you are going to bring along.
easy shit - I'm no trials rider, never was and my other handicap is my 75 KT250 -  ;)
Easy shit it is then.
Did you know that a week ago at round 2 of the Queensland Cup (trials comp series) at Stanthorpe, Dungar Pilot  8) won Twinshock Class by a country mile on a KT.
We're even planning to have a green team of three of them at the NSW twinshock trials titles in June - Dungar Pilot, Chippy and Feetupfun

Vintage Track / Re: XT500, de rake? Better turning?

The limit on how far you slide them up is when something hits something else when the forks compress. It's always a good idea to take the springs out to make sure there is clearance before you go for a ride.
25 mm makes a big difference to the steering.

What's that thing clamped onto the slider with wires on it?
