Wanted / NX650 or Tenere
« on: November 28, 2016, 02:34:16 pm »
I have a friend who is currently looking for either a Honda NX650 or an early model Yamaha Tenere.
Looking at setting something up for some adventure riding, preferably something in good condition to start with.
Does not need to have registration, preferably located in Victoria or close by.

Hey

I am looking at purchasing a 1988/89 Yamaha DT200R, one of the first blue ones.
Interesting in buying one in good condition, can be standard or slightly modified.
If you have one or know of someone, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

I had an S model DR350 for a while, fitted it with an IMS large tank, WP front forks and stripped most the not required ADR stuff off it. They have a good motor, nice and smooth, and ride quite well when set up for a trail bike. A good fun bike to ride.

I had an 82XR500RC that I did a bit of work to trying to make it a more stable ride and slightly stronger in power.
I did the following;
A complete 82CR250 front end (forks, triples, wheel, brakes) with heavier springs
Had the rear shock rebuilt with a heavier spring made to suit
Special made brake linings for the front and rear (more metallic compound)
Malcolm Smith bigger foot pegs (period pegs)
Higher comp piston
Larger headers
Modified staintune muffler
HRC grind cam (later changed back to std)
Ran the standard reed valves and most other parts were standard.
The bike handled much better in all conditions, braked much better and made stronger and longer power which was very usable.
Great bike you could use almost anywhere.

Check with Staintune as they may still have them in stock or can do a run of some.

The event was a great ride that provided a bit of everything for everyone. The course was the same as what was used the previous weekend for the BMCC club pony express only ran in reverse. The reason was to make the bumps not so harsh, but on a pre 80 or 90 bike any bump is harsh. The track though was spot on with tight second gear rutted and bumpy sections to fast top gear open paddocks with a little bit of dust thrown in. A great effort by all associated with the event, and a big thanks to the land owner and the people who made it possible. Bring on next year and a possibly a series.

What a great weekend ride with a variety of different sections. The course had a mix of slow heavy sand to fast top gear harded packed tracks, somethng for everyone really. I think we all had a 'this might hurt moment' throughout the day but luckily no real injuries were to occur. All volunteers, riders and crew were friendly and respectful of each other and the area and I`m sure there will be quite a few returns next year.
A huge thankyou to all the people who volunteered to organise and run the event, to the local land owners who gave permission to use this spectacular part of the State, to all the riders and crew that turned up and especially the Township of Hopetoun for hosting the event.

Again, well done guys I will definitely be back again next year.

Hi Tex

Is the setup for this years event similar to last?
Will there be a fuel drop (car and trailor) at a fill up point (Dattuck dune area) so fuel range can be around the 80km`s mark?

I know that White Power use to make a rear shock for the TT250/350 and alternative rear springs.
Flood motorsport use to supply them.

Can we get access to the pine forest area again this year?
That was a good part of the course.

It may be a little off the VMX track but Shane Watts did a comparison of his 1997 KTM 125 and a new 2014 KTM 125 with suprising results. It shows that progress may not provide the leap forward as much as promoted.
