So it was a great event despite the weather on the Sunday.
To those that weren't haven't been there then no matter how rough or wet it was you just won't know until you do it or at least see it for your own eyes!
The evo team aka pre 90's were unreal.
5th overall for Craig Anderson. Led one moto for most of the race till a mistake cost him a few spots.
Kirk Hutton and James Deakin were fantastic and placed 16th and 18th respectively.
Glen Bell was way off the pace due to a less than favourable lead up due to injury and placed well back.
The depth of talent is an other mind blower.
I think they placed 6th as a team but not 100% on that.
Due to shit rules as James Deakin was a reserve in over 50's evo, he was relegated to a second gate drop ( 40 riders in first drop and another 20 in the second drop) on the saturday, even though he qualified about 3rd fastest! So he had to push through the pack to run in the top 5 by the end of the moto.
Sunday he was able to run in the first lot and nearly won his races! Legend!
In the Twin shock des nations I was a reserve but ended up taking John Kittles spot due to him braking a collar bone in the lead up to the event and chose to run in the over 50's only due to a lack of fitness basically.
So Geoff Ballard was 14th, Russell Williamson 29th and Kenneth Swan 30th.
Geoff and I found each other all weekend and both had a 9th as our best result.
I ended up 12th overall (stoked).
I also competed in the over 50's twin shock. I got 5th overall (very stoked). My best result was a 4th in the first moto.I had a bad moto in the 3rd race in the mud. I ran too higher tyre pressure as was told to run 15 in all conditions, even mud. I was going in circles ( literally ). I dropped to 10 psi after that.
I had a couple of issues in the twin shock of nations too.
The bike ran that hot due to muddy conditions in the first race on the Sunday, that the spark plug lead melted onto the head and shorted out. I found the issue and was able to restart and finish 18th. It was so muddy i wasn't able to push the bike off the track. The bike had so much mud caked on. Starting and riding was the only way i could move it!
In the next race i was in a great position well in the top ten when the fuel cap came off spilling fuel all over me. Not wanting to pull in i improvised and stuffed my glove in the filler. Unfortunately it fell out so i stopped again and used my other glove. It jammed in much better and finished the race. I think the fact my pants were already wet saved my crown jewels from copping it as its happened to me before and i ended up in a dam up to my waist to get relief!

Do yourself a favour and put it on your bucket list!

What Tony said.
All I did say was that your 'revolation' already exists elsewhere
Bastardising bikes isn't a priority in my book.
Nor is it an answer imo

It would be simple to classify this era/class as Twin-Shock.
Being Air-cooled, no linkage, drum brakes, conventional forks (no upside down).
Then you can mix up any part from any era with any bike as long as it meets this simple criteria. It could not be any easier to regulate and police. Make it a class to be creative.
Those that want to cheque book it can and those that want to be creative can also. Those chasing sheep stations still need to twist the throttle.
You haven't put forward  anything new here. That's what most of Europe does. Not a fan myself of bastardising bikes to meet a very loose criteria. None of the other classes we have do that. Why is evo so special?

CZ / Re: Unlimited Barn Find

It's been almost a year since I posted last. I had a major mishap on a bike and messed my hip, leg, ankle, and broke my back so I was out of commission for awhile. Now that I am back at it I messed with the CZ this last week. I've seen this done so I had to make one for myself. It shortens the shift throw about 50%.

Nice. Gerard Coppings modification?

Done to death and ends in a shit fight.
Having said that  ::) Pre 82 is no harder than the word evo. A new punter has to learn how it all works, just like I did. It amazes me how we talk as though we have to dumb down things as if the newby is a dumb arse.
The only hard bit is in the fact the of differing technologies in this era. You can call the class toasted sandwiches if you wanted to. Its just a name. The yanks have names and not year cut off dates.
Pre 82 was only invented due to some that believe that the rules should reflect a form of pigeon holing bikes into their era and cross pollinating ,if you will, should not be allowed. The power(s) that be disagree and so do some punters. So those people took matters into their own hands in the form of pre 82, which turned into a major shit fight, mainly due to many bikes not complying to the pre 82 class rules. Simply, they had parts that were off linkage bikes.
When using pre 78 parts on a pre 75 bike is considered a no no, as to any other era that has a name associated with a year cut off (pre 65 etc). Yet evo seems to be open slather. Thats not to say there aren't punters with later parts on their bikes such as 88 cr250 forks in an 84 cr250 for e.g.
My evo bike was built around a motor. I bought everything else. I truly believed then and still do now that out of era parts should not be okay on your bike. I built my bike in 2010, way before all this crap started.
I will also say that I had nothing to do with concept of pre82, even though I both understand why it was done ( wish it hadn't due to the rift it has caused) and as you have read (if you have gotten this far) I believe in the reason behind the pre 82 shit storm.
At the end of the day, vmx is far from black and white. What about 2017 shocks? Fat bars? Billet parts? Then add humans into the mix and here we are!  a shit fight thats strained friendships and made enemies. Thats the worst part. I love my vmx friends and to have them strained over this subject has taken a toll, even though people are so over talking about it things are getting better. The sooner pre 82 is dropped for the benefit of vmx the better. Not because its wrong...

Went well tony but it stalled for quite a while. Goes like a side pipe and is awesome. Finally got it together and as sorted as we could before the Aussie titles. There was some stiff competition in pre 70 but it made it to the front in the first race and got the win. Second race it broke the gear lever shaft so that was the end of that. Definitely worth the effort.

General Discussion / Re: Old school truck engine size ?

Looking to do the same. Just bought a hq chassis that has been rebuilt to put an early f truck body on it. Chev small block is my preference. I don't understand using a 253. They suck fuel like a v8 but are slugs.
