Suzuki / Re: Mikuni 36mm Carby on a PE175?
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:55:03 pm »
Personally I doubt you need it. Drew Smith (the ex ISDT and PE god) ran one briefly I believe, but are we in that league?

everything about PE's is here:
 https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=407d7ef0965d3991&id=407D7EF0965D3991%211086
every manual, every brochure, every magazine article, etc.

depending on where your PE came from, the jetting did vary and after 30 years, who knows what some earlier owner did to the thing...

Yes, that is a PE250N frame number. I would NOT alter the motor much, just clean it up and go have fun.
The later models (T/X/Z) had quite different frames and you will find that most of those parts will not help you with your B/C/N machines.

As Nobby suggested, go look at my 'onedrive' and you will find more PE information than you might expect.

There is also a Yahoo mailing list with about 300 PE people from around the globe on that.
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/PEmotorcycles/info

To be blown away by some truly awesome restorations, go look at Fabrice's PE web site in France.
  http://pureenduro.free.fr/
He has a beyond museum perfect PE400 in his lounge room and his garage can best be described as a PE shrine.

Firko, one thing I do klnw is dont buy one off Paul Miller on Ebay.

I tried to buy one for a mate last year and he unsuccessfully sent me three which were all rusty and then shafted me the last time and wouldn't refund my money.

Be careful with this a##hole.
Sigh.. and YES I too am getting screwed around by Linda of Paul Miller Motorcycle.
Sent me the wrong item. Sent it back.
Sent me a different wrong item. Sent it back.
No refund, no replies...
These people are not looking terribly trustworthy.

Manuals & Technical Doco / Re: RM and PE Suzuki info

The PE and RM sites are full of tips and info ..... thanks Luke.
BTW, it is Stewart's knowledge makes up a large part of the actual useful tips. A lot of people on the PE list have helped collect and collate the information. Circa 5Gb of data.

Impressive. Looks like plenty of fun AND you could run it in the middle of suburbia and who the heck is going to complain about smoke and noise? Nobody. Very nice.

For the RM & PE, these earlier postings should help. "Phlolina Yellow" is the term.

Manuals & Technical Doco / Re: CC swept area calulation
« on: April 29, 2013, 07:40:29 pm »
I strongly prefer to think of it as (Pi x (Radius squared)) x stroke, when discerning the swept volume of the cylinder.

[Radius being half the bore]
[Pi being the ratio of the circle circumference to its diameter, or (C/D) which is approximately 3.14159]
[(Pi x (Radius squared))] being the area of the top of a cylinder
[stroke being the length of the cylinder traversed by the piston]

then just multiply by the number of cylinders your engine has.

Your RM465 is  86mm (b)  x  80mm (s)
( ( 3.141592654 * ((0.5* 86mm bore) * (0.5* 86mm bore)) ) * (80mm stroke) ) * 1 (single cylinder)

ergo = that standard bore RM465 is indeed 464.7cc

« on: April 22, 2013, 06:27:54 pm »
I buy spokes from Buchanan's http://www.buchananspokes.net/
Make sure you have all the measurements ready when you call. The lady on the phone will give you the root canal... ;)
My rims and spokes came from Buchanan's. Bloody awesome. Hard to say anything else.

I feel #53 has absolutely nailed it. A great piece of work.
As usual, I am left wondering how the heck can you top this in the next one.
Hearty congratulations.

And the honourable ones that swore that putting "Slick 50" and other gibberish Teflon additives in the motorcycles oil was a godsend. Teflon on wet clutches..... :D

Helium in your racers tyres, got to be super smick as well we all know Helium is lighter than air.....
Helium bleeds straight through rubber. That was tried in the early '60s in the A12 spy 'plane by Lockheed. They ended up using nitrogen in the tyres simply because it would not explode from the heat generated at Mach 3.2.
