General Discussion / R.I.P. member 'Moto' - Tony Cullen
« on: April 25, 2021, 10:27:27 pm »
I have the tragically sad news to report that longstanding OzVMX member known as 'Moto", Tony Cullen passed away on Saturday 24/4/21.  The reason for his passing is yet to be finalised, but he was doing something he loved - riding his Bultaco Montadero. He was a great friend to many, an absolute fountain of Bultaco knowledge, and a bloody good bloke. He will be missed.

I reckon most people who have a fairly 'good' life go by the beautiful old Frank Sinatra song - "I Did It My Way"
I certainly do, as he sings - "regrets,  I've had a few,  but then again,  too few to mention."
Makes me tear up every time I hear it, as it plays at lots of funerals, and I want it played at mine.
In the meantime, between injuries and pains, riding bikes is the best relaxation/mental meditation we motorcycle riders are lucky to have.

I couldn't really say if its ok Ted, it is really more of an old bike deal, not newys.
If you want call John on (02)62916446 he's the organiser.
You can buy a bike at the rally!
'Moto' (Tony C) has a SherpaT 250 for sale there.
I've a 1977 Pursang 250 Mk10 for sale.

Just to get this back up the list,
who's going to come along and ride with me on my Sherpa T350, and Pursang 360 and Metralla 250.
(And dont say 'all your friends = Noone)
Should be great fun.

It is good to see Swannie winning the MX De VMX, or The Bruce 'Magoo' McFarlane shield.
He deserved it, after all his work on getting the track up and running, and then banging up his shoulder too.
Those last three races were the most hectic, and hard fought over, of the whole great weekend.
The event had a great campground atmosphere with lots of 'refreshment' drinks and many new, and old, faces turning up to have a crack at this historic track. I'm sure this will foster some fresh members to join up.
ps I've got a few sore blisters on my hands just like the old days, that track tests you out. Anyone else got 'em?
Thanks to all the Heaven committee!

If you want to get your mind all bitter and twisted about the bobber trend and what they do to old bikes, have a look at this weekends 'Throttle Roll' in Sydney, its on again tommorrow.

Search 'Throttle Roll Sydney 2015 ' on mr Google.

Luckily they don't usually hack up the best old bikes, but only because they cant afford them.

If you want to have a look at the track layout and other details check out the official site:-

All levels of riders entering, and you will have a ball on this track!

Doesn't the oil pump supply oil to the main bearings in TM motors?

General Discussion / Re: Dickie Knee
« on: February 28, 2015, 10:23:07 am »
The one time I did NOT wear my Thor knee braces (in my smaller race boot)  I hit the deck hard and the Jawa's steel fuel tank smashed my knee into the ground side on. It crushed the meniscus somewhat.
Would have been at very least cushioned well by these guards, they have had big hits and crashes before and no probs with knee damage - till now.
Favouring my sore knee caused damage to the 'good' knee so both a bit poor in the joint now although, time, resting, and condroitin and creams seems to be helping.

There was also Bengt Aberg on 370 Pursang
Kenny Roberts on Metralla Mk2
and infamous Aust. Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser on Matador Mk5 for his farm.

Bike Talk / Re: stator rewinding
« on: February 19, 2015, 10:59:22 pm »
I'll just throw in a couple of comments for thought Woody.
My ElectrexWorld full ignition system is still sitting in its $400 box as it has a completely wrong advance/retard curve for my Bully - which it is "designed" for!
I asked for answers and help from the E/W UK but all I finally, eventually got was another repositioned stator plate and it did no good.
I got the system curve mapped by Aaron at Small Coil Rewinds (another $100) just to prove to myself that it was wrong, which it was.
I put in a set of old Femsa CDI and it runs good. no more pinking, and now gets power at full revs.
Small Coil Rewinds have always been pretty helpful for the bike shops I've been in, and lately SCR were the one's who could rewind a CBX650 Stator ring without totally dismantling it.

Keep up the research - good luck.
