Thanks Richo, it's definitely proven to be pretty popular but I said I'd take $600 to the first bloke who contacted me and I'm a man of my word (but possibly stupid!!!). Actually I'm just happy for it to be going on someone's bike where it belongs.

This is my other tank which is a bit over restored

For Sale / CR250M tank for sale
« on: July 10, 2017, 08:58:40 pm »
I bought this tank about 6 years ago, probably for what was overs at the time, but I thought I'd use it on a 2nd 250M resto that I was planning. The 2nd bike is now long gone but the tank remains. The tank on my other Elsie was restored and fits the standard of that bike, whereas this tank still has its original patina. I never met the previous owner (bought it through a 3rd party) so i don't know its history.

Tank appears to still have its original paint and has no rub marks on the underside, which I've always assumed meant it had never been on a bike. I can't guarantee it hasn't, but the 2 other Elsinore tanks I've owned have both had wear/rub marks on the underside from being mounted. I can't smell any fuel in it and in fact it smells a bit like wax or oil.

Tank has a very small dent on RH side in bottom rear corner which I presume could be removed by someone handier than me through the filler cap.  Tank also has some shelf rash

I'm hoping to get north of $600 for it but open to any reasonable offers.  It cost me $750 in 2011. If I can't off load it here, I'll stick it on eBay in a weeks time and see how it goes there. Happy to post but have no idea what it would cost. Anyone genuinely interested in it are welcome to come and view it if possible. I'm in Murrumbeena in VIC.   See below pics  (I think if you double click on the pics you can get into my photo bucket page and see all the photos I have of it and the tank on my other Elsinore). Apologies for the dust, I should have washed it before I took the pics.

Suzuki / Re: Front plates
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:49:34 pm »
All the plastics on my 250B are from Vintage Suzuki so I don't know how their front plate compares to original plastics but it looks good against their whole set.

It came blank and I had to drill it to fit the mounting brackets from memory.  The sell the pre-cut green background that's on mine.  I'll try to upload some pics.

For Sale / 1983 KX 500
« on: March 23, 2014, 01:34:40 pm »
Bought this as a restoration project almost 2 years ago as I love the look of the 82/83 KX's but I probably won't ever get around to finishing it with the other bikes that I still have to do. I've only ridden it a couple of times and wasn't overly excited by its performance but was hoping to rectify that. The bike is a reasonably honest example of the 500 A1.

I haven't done a heap to it other than fitting a new Barnett clutch and springs, a new Uni filter, some gaskets, a Nightmare Racing plastics kit and a very nice GMC pipe and muffler.  I still have the original pipe and muffler but the original pipe is pretty rough. I haven't tried to sort the jetting out since fitting the GMC pipe and it does need sorting.

Suspension is pretty soft (I'm 85 kgs) and would have to be re-done and was on my list of things to do.  Front rim has obviously been replaced at some stage with an aftermarket rim. Tyres appear to be almost brand new. I have about $300 worth of NOS Kawasaki bolts, nuts etc that I ordered from CMS that still need to be fitted, plus a complete decal set from Reproduction Decals, assorted oil seals, top end gasket kit and an owners manual.

The previous owner said the squish mod had been done but I haven't pulled the head off it yet.  Chasing 4K for the lot which is a fair bit less than what it owes me.  :(  I would have probably tipped another 2K into it if I kept it, getting the suspension and wheels done. PM me for more details or photos if interested.  Bike is located in Murrumbeena in Melbourne.  If no interest, I'll throw it on eBay in a couple of weeks time.  Cheers

Honda / Removal of 73 CR250M clutch arm query.
« on: February 08, 2014, 06:04:27 pm »
Probably a dumb question but is there a trick to removing the clutch actuating arm on a 73 CR250M once you've removed the retaining screw?

Mine will pull up about 30mm from its original position, but will not budge any further no matter what direction I turn the arm.

Thought I'd better check before applying some force to it.

I need to remove it as its been modified where it retains the clutch cable and I have a new one to fit,

Parts fiche on CMSNL doesn't show anything else that would restrict its removal once the retaining screw is out

Cheers

For Sale / Re: Nice Maico 490 Mega 2.
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:25:09 pm »
Quite a few of this seller's bikes were purchased from East Coast Vintage. Not sure about these current Maicos but its a good chance they're from East Coast Vintage as well.

Sold today for $4999. The bike was actually sold by East Coast Vintage in the States not that long ago. It appears on the East Coast Vintage website under 'sold bikes'.  Don't know what the original US sale price was. The current seller on ebay also used the original East Coast Vintage photos.

I have a spare one if you want it. I'm in Melbourne.

Assume you're talking about the cage INSIDE the airbox the the filter is fitted to?

Honda / Re: CR250M alternator
« on: February 02, 2012, 11:20:13 pm »
Thanks for all the replies,

Its basically the whole alternator set I want to replace - stator, spacer and rotor.

I'm only going by the CMS micro-fiche which has the same alternator shown for all years 73 -76 (CR250M and CR250M1)

My current alternator is points and condensor - no CDI and it has the usual coil mounted on frame under the tank

The NOS version on Ebay is advertised as having part number ending in 003 not 811 but they claim its for a 76 model which is what's confusing me.

Having said that, the one on Ebay it looks exactly the same so it would probably be worth the punt to buy (I think) ???

Thanks Jim but they're cheap enough to buy NOS rather than repairing the existing one interstate (I'm in Vic). I just need to confirm one suitable for the 76 bike will actually fit and function on my 73.
