For Sale / PEs for sale
« on: October 23, 2014, 01:13:13 pm »
Unfortunately I have decided to get rid of my 3 x PEs. My plan was to have a good restored bike with a heap of spares for it so I found a 1 owner 1979 PE250N, missing speedo, and a running 1978 PE250C as a source for a lot of spares. There is also a 1980 PE175T which is pretty rough but had usable parts for the project. The 1979 is being rebuilt with new swingarm, wheel, steering head bearings, new tyres and tubes etc. The motor hasn't been put back in the frame as I thought a prospective buyer may want to look inside it.
I would like to sell as 1 lot if possible and am open to sensible offers or even a swap arrangement, although there does not look like any Vinduro, VMX in my future so nothing along those lines. Located at Lake Macquarie.

Thanks, why didn't I think of that?

Suzuki / PE25oN steering stem

Just confirmation, from previous posts, that the steering stem (tube) is just pressed into the lower clamp on the PE.
I need to remove the stem so it can be modified for a new top bearing.
Thanks

Gas shocks with the remote reservoir. The 250N came with Koni shocks fitted. They has 410mm centers and the Fox Shox have 400mm centres, which is close enough.

Thanks for the advice it saves some messing around. As far as rear shocks go when I bought the 175 it had Fox Factory Shox fitted.  I have brought some parts from Thor and plan to rebuild them.  I hope they perform as good as they look.

I'm rebuilding a PE250N and also have an incomplete 250C and 175T in the shed. I will be keeping the compatible parts from the 250C as spares but what will fit from the 175? Would the alloy swing arm from the 175 fit the 250N?  The plan is to have a good bike that can be used for Vinduro and VMX, (just like the old days when you would ride your enduro bike on club MX days), with enough spares to keep it running for some time to come.

General Discussion / Re: John Hall
« on: July 22, 2010, 03:12:41 pm »
John was a true gentleman. I had the good fortune to be a near neighbour when I first started riding in 72. My first bike was a Honda CL90s which was quickly pressed into service as a trail bike with Johns encouragement. This quickly led to a Yamaha CT3 then my proper enduro bike, an Ossa SDR, which I brought from John at Harvey Feltons shop in Cessnock. John taught and encouraged so many riders in those days. I will always remember his Greeves, then the Ossa Phantom he rode in enduros. He was deceptively quick in the bush. I will always remember that bastard of a hill in the 75 Forest 300. There were riders stuck all over it, John stopped at the bottom, let a bit of air out of the rear and proceeded to motor up the hill passing scores of riders. He taught me things about riding that I still remember today and always encouraged the best from people. It is sad when one of the people that had such a positive influence on your life passes. Our condolences to Joy and the boys.

Suzuki / Re: PE250N reed valve

Thanks for the advice. I think I will risk it and just replace the reeds and clean up the top end. As far as spares go , e.g. reeds, bearings etc is it better to try your local  Suzuki dealer first then try the specialist traders and ebay?
Thanks for the advice.

Suzuki / PE250N reed valve
« on: June 20, 2010, 01:30:47 pm »
I'm rebuilding a PE250N that is a very original one owner bike. When he got a flat tyre 18 years ago he parked it in his mothers shed and it stayed there until I bought it a few months ago. The top end looks good, no wear in the bore etc just a bit of carbon to remove.  My concern is the reed valves. Because they are so old should I replace them or will they be OK?
Thanks

I was hoping to have a go at a few Vinduros but there dosn't seem to be many
in NSW yet. Therefore the PE250N I'm rebuilding will probably see service in VMX. I visited the last Lakes event and the atmosphere of the event and friendliness of people I spoke to in the pits was encouraging. My only concern is its 30 years since I  rode a dirt bike in competition as my last events were the enduros of the 70s. Hope to have a go next season when the bike is completed.
