Yes same-same, but different to the Banana Splits buggies (Amphicat)

The Repco was a cheap copy....that didn't work anywhere near as well!

Looks like my link didn't work, the Repco ranger I'm looking for was a 6X6 amphibious ATV built in Melbourne. I will try posting a photo again

General Discussion / Re: FALL ARREST HARNESSES
« on: April 21, 2013, 08:24:13 pm »
Its been a few years since I've had a harness on but from memory, your harness lanyard(with fall arrest webbing) connects to a locking caribiner which connects to the fall arrestor or fall arrest device which is attached to the vertical life line.

If you are using the actual device to climb instead of it being a safety then it is a Jumar

Vintage Track / Re: Jawa 4 Valve help needed!
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:21:30 am »
Thanks mate, where the oil ended up has been doing my head in!

Looks like its coming apart for a clean, everything looks basic enough so shouldn't be too bad to work on...except for the cam chain tensioning not sure how thats done but I'll do some more googling and try and find a description. I'm guessing you just have to keep the 2 tensioners even

Vintage Track / Jawa 4 Valve help needed!
« on: April 17, 2013, 11:38:00 am »
Let me start by declaring I have never worked on oa speedway bike and am well out of my depth on this one!!

I have a mates FT500 Jawa which he believes is the first 4 valve model (he knows less than me about speedway bikes), he wants me to get it going for him so he can have a try on it.

It appears to be in good overall condition but has been sitting for over 10 years.

I have done most of the usual checks that you would do on a bike that has been sitting for a while, but the main thing I am not sure about is the oiling system. I have experienced castor oil gumming up and going hard on 2 stroke race engines, does this happen to the internails on a speedway bike?
Will I need to disassemble the engine & oil pump and clean everything?
Will the oil tank need to be cleaned out?

Also for one really stupid question...I understand the oil goes from the tank in the top tube down to the oil pump/dripper on the right side of the engine. But where does the oil end up??? does it drip on to the track, go out the exhaust, catch tank??

Thanks in advance
Mick

General Discussion / Re: Rules and regs that should be....
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:42:08 am »
There should be rules established for a new class for hybrid bikes that are made entirely of disputed parts. 76 model alloy swingarms, cr250 76 model frames with shocks relocated, suzuki footpegs with or without return springs, 19 inch rear wheels, conical hubs, mudcatchers etc etc. There cannot be any parts on the bike that have not had a controversy or protest attributed to them..........

Complete bike or frame only. These things were all the rage 10 years ago so there are a few around. Saw 3 for sale at the one swap meet a couple of years ago but now I want one they are no where to be found!!

Let me know if you have one you want to get rid of, Cheers Mick

General Discussion / New Broadford Accomodation Option
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:22:48 am »
My Mum has just opened up a new B&B style cottage 10 minutes from the Broadford Track at Ennis Rd Tallarook.

A great option for anyone that wants a more comfortable / quiet option than camping in the pits.

-Direct access off the Hume Fwy

-2 bedroom self contained house

-secure fenced property with undercover parking, room to work on bikes

-Parking for any size race transporters (even B doubles)

For Sale / Re: YZ80 or RM80????

The minibike indians I have seen had a "Ducati" ignition

In my experience, stator resistance readings don't really offer much help to the actual condition of the stator unless you get a reading showing a dead short or open circuit.
Most of the faulty windings I have come across have a normal resistance reading but break down under (electrical) load. The best thing to do is take it to someone that can test it properly like small coil rewinds or swap it for another one.
My dad used to fix electronic ignitions for a living and he used to say that when you get to the point of checking stators or cdi's on jap bikes, 9 times out of 10 it won't be the problem....it will be something else you have missed

General Discussion / Re: What is this thing called carbon tax?

I can't see electricity, but I know not to stick a fork into the powerpoint.

Electricity is easy to see, it looks the same as smoke, stick a fork in a power point...you will see it!!
