Youtube Videos / 90s/00s Aussie Supercross Masters
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:47:27 am »
Check out this guy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/egg449

Plenty of 90s Supercross Masters races in there.  I didn't realise a very young J. McGrath raced at the Melbourne round in 1990...

He's also got all 3 classes from the 2001 GP at Broadford.

Personally don't care about cycling as it's inherently a cheater's paradise.  I'm more amazed at this great technology!

Teng Tools are surprisingly good.  3/8" socket set is 15 years old now and still going great.

General Discussion / Re: Comfortable riding gear in the heat

I wear Seven "Zero" gear.  It has vent holes in the underarms, elbow joint etc.  The vent holes are reinforced so they haven't torn open either.

On a warm day you can really feel the air flowing up through the arms through the elbow joint.  Great stuff.  The associated pants are also quite airy with lots of free flowing mesh, but it really depends on what you wear underneath (knee braces + knee brace sock don't help much).

General Discussion / Re: Are modern two strokes really better?
« on: November 25, 2014, 05:57:41 pm »
I jumped off my 1993 CR250 straight on to a new YZ250 and I found the biggest difference was the frame.  It's amazing how rigid the aluminium frame is.  It just thuds into the bumps, where you can really feel the chassis working on the old steel bike.  The motors on both bikes were lineball, maybe the YZ has a bit more up top (both motors are fresh).  Motocross Action didn't call that year's CR engine the 'Motor of Doom' for nothing (mine is stock apart from a vforce reed block) - it really was head & shoulders above anything else back then.  On the downside, in stock form, the suspension on the 93 is complete garbage!

General Discussion / Re: NEW VCM WEBSITE

New site is excellent.  The graphics suit the era of bikes too.  One small thing, looks like the numbering on the list of rounds is out of order.  Here's as they are on the site:

June 22nd, Round 3 at Underra
July 27th, Round 4 at Yanakie
Sep 14th, Round 5 at Yarram
Oct 26th, Round 2 at Pakenham
Nov 9th, Round 6 at Stoney Creek

What if it's bundled in your health insurance?  I double checked mine last week and it's definitely in there.  What proof would be sufficient?

The Japs gave KTM the biggest free kick ever when they all decided to stop making/developing two-strokes.  They are selling them by the boatload.  KTM produced 56,000 offroad motorcycles in 2012. That's a big number in itself, and 14,000 of them were two-strokes.

Still money in it...

Here's the original thread if anyone's interested:

There are guys throwing money at him to keep riding it.  Even guys offering to rebuild the bike & tune his motor.

Personally, I reckon if JT don't sponsor him they must have rocks in their heads.

This has gone ballistic on the VitalMX forums.  This kid has managed to qualify for the Lorettas amateur nationals on the old CR.  Rear drum brake & all!

And we need these modern fangled four strokes for what reason again?

General Discussion / Victorian rider down - Fundraiser
« on: June 13, 2013, 03:52:38 pm »
Hi all, not strictly VMX related but definitely a situation that we could all find ourselves in.  Victorian rider Mick Mahoney was involved in a bad crash at Frankston MX track a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately Mick was left paralysed from the chest down.  Some of you may know Mick as he's raced a few rounds of VIPER over the past year or so.

Marty Ritchie at Krooztune Suspension has organised a raffle for Mick's fundraiser day at Nunawading MX track on July 6.  The winning entries will be drawn on this day.

If you're interested in a chance to win a CRF50 or a couple of other decent prize packs courtesy of Peter Stevens and Maxima/Steve Cramer Products, go check out the Krooztune website (www.krooztune.com) for ticket info.  All proceeds go to Mick, his wife Sienna and young son Mason to help out with his rehab & ongoing recovery.

Tickets are $20, or $50 for 3.  I've been told there aren't a huge amount of tickets in circulation, so there will be a decent chance of collecting a prize.

Thanks all,
Neil Ritchie

Barrabool was 10x what Broadford is.  I dug out some old home videos and found some footage of some late nineties Thumper Nats.  The joint was rammed.  Cars everywhere, thousands of people.  Great atmosphere.  Any GP needs to go there.  Broadford is a goat track in comparison.

Here's a thought.  Even if noise is a slight issue, why not play to people's hearts and hold a 2 stroke national title at Barrabool?  They don't make half the noise.  Run what ya brung sort of thing.  It's the same novelty as the thumpers before those damn things became the norm.  How cool would it be to see some big names on some big bore 2 stroke creations?
