Husqvarna / Re: husky frames: some questions
« on: May 23, 2017, 06:31:28 am »
I have fitted a honda  xl 500 motor into a klx frame, there are issues...there is very little space for the carb (requiring a long droopy intake manifold), due to the frame back bone dropping down to the seat area. May be different with a 250. The bike was ...ok ( a lot of work), but given the choice id go husky, and ive ridden a white frame husky /xt 500 hybrid as well, a better option imo.

I have also fitted a xr200 motor into a klx, along with a modified xr 200 air box, all fitted easy, tightish at the top, miles of room down at the lower cradle/ towards the front of the motor.

Don't reckon they came from the factory with an automotive push/pull switch to operate the lights or cable ties holding the headlight on either. No expense spared there, lol. Gotta love an "optimist" though.
K
"original parts optimized or replaced with better", gotta love the schpiel, must work in advertising..!

Im pretty sure you can buy a blank foam from various people, last time I needed a big foam I used an aw maico tall foam for what I needed, so that would be chippy now. I think peter schoene had blanks as well

I have been told by a (very good) welder the jap al. castings have a lot of zinc in them which makes the metal flow better during the casting process. When he welds them he takes his time "burning off" impurities, whether from the initial casting or later contamination. All done with a water cooled tig torch.
He crack tests afterwards as well. Also has a mini torch for ports/ valve pockets etc.

For sure every manufacturer has their own blend for castings

We all like e-start and brakes that work now though! I have a xr650 that I'd like a whole lot more with a button!
