Wanted / Re: 1983 Suzuki RM250 / 465 Rear Shock
« on: July 17, 2020, 03:22:21 pm »
My 83 RM250 is a Z model. The 1983 RM500 was the D model.
Looks like they were the same shock. So if you have the specs that will work out well.
If you could PM your contact number please.

Wanted / 1983 Suzuki RM250 / 465 Rear Shock
« on: July 17, 2020, 08:20:27 am »
I am chasing a rear shock for a 1983 Suzuki RM250 / 465... preferably in fairly good condition.. if not it doesn’t matter as I will get it rebuilt, or if to far gone I can use as a template to get one built.
The shock on the bike I just bought isn’t standard Suzuki. The chap I bought the bike from had receipts for his shock being rebuilt/ setup for his weight. His original was replaced with this shock... along with other dodgy “repair” work...

There is a seller called Andos Auqa Blasting on the OZ VMX Facebook site. I went to his business yesterday to look for something as he isn’t far from me.
He has one in good condition. I was going to buy it just to keep for the mancave. It looked in good condition.
In Port Kennedy WA.

Yamaha / YZ465H / YZ490 82 Piston Clearance
« on: June 20, 2018, 12:45:28 pm »
Managed to get a 81 YZ465H with matching numbers engine / frame.... except for the barrel.. the stampings show its a 82 YZ490 Barrel.
I've searched the web but haven't managed to find a definitive answer to the piston clearance... would 6 thou be the answer ? A quick measure with a feeler gauge whilst the barrel is on shows 15 thou + way too much...only did this as I could physically see the gap between the piston and bore is way too big... walked away feeling depressed. I'll take the barrel off and get a correct measurement...
would it be worth getting a new piston / rebore or try and source a 465 barrel ? from what I've read the 490 wasn't as good / vibrates / etc. :'( ?

« on: May 11, 2018, 12:45:15 pm »
I had Walter from YSS make me up a complete new rear shock for my 83 KX250.
He has / had all the specs, and a really quick turn around.

I also remember going to Claremont and watching him ride. Good times.
I've still got the magazine somewhere (think it was Cycle World) which has the speedway bike he had gold plated.

RIP.

apart from the spring ends sitting in the correct locations is the spring sitting correctly over the ratchet pawl?
if it isn't the kickstarter mechanism doesn't line up correctly.

I personally have used Scott numerous times to transport bikes both ways of the country and to also pickup parts such as swing arms / tyres / etc which he looks after and makes sure no damage is done.
Also Door to Door service... spot on.
