For Sale / XR250 and TL250 for sale
« on: October 25, 2014, 09:42:25 pm »

!!!! SOLD !!!!   These bikes have been sold, sorry of any inconvenience.

Due to some domestic re-arrangements,  I am having to clean out my shed, and am selling my 1982 XR250 and TL250.

Both are in good condition, were rebuilt when I got them, and only get used about once a year.
Both have registration papers, but the registration is not current.

Not really sure what they are worth so I would like some feedback about prices.

Would rather sell them here than put them on Gumtree and have some dickhead buy them.

Located in Adelaide, phone number 0432 861 818

If you don't have any luck with a manual you could try some online microfiche:

Estimated power output is 57 HP. Seems to go OK.

Vinduro / Re: Ok SA riders here is a Vinduro event close to you

I'm keen, but will have to see if I can get a weekend pass from the wife.

At the current rate of progress I might just have the clutch back in the XR by then.

Charlie.

Wanted / Re: TL250 parts

Wanted...exhaust/muffler

Me too, mine has rusted away totally.

Closest I could find was a TL125 one from MLB in New Zealand (http://www.musket.co.nz/product.asp?brand_id=&cate_id=&make_id=&parttype_id=&model=tl125&partNo=&Submit2=Search#), but I have no idea if it would fit the 250.

I went for a Sammy Miller one like this http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/honda_files/honda_tl250_5e.htm.

Haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how noisy it is.

Tech Talk / Re: Clutch basket cushion springs
« on: January 21, 2009, 03:53:23 pm »
You are right guys, I should probably try and get a good second hand one before I try and repair the existing one. The consequences of a repaired clutch basket falling apart in a running engine far outweighs the cost of a getting a good second hand one.

Thanks.

Tech Talk / Clutch basket cushion springs
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:02:49 pm »
The cushion springs in the clutch basket of my 82 XR250 have compressed to the extent where they now rattle in the holders, and there is a couple of degrees free play between the basket itself and the drive gear. It runs fine, but it makes a terrible noise, and I am pretty sure the clutch cushion springs are the culprit. The rest of the clutch is still in good condition so I don't really want to replace it, I am hoping that someone here has a clever ideas for fixing it.

It looks like I can grind off the rivets holding the backing plate on and get the springs out, I was thinking of getting some new springs made, or getting the old ones stretched and re-tempered.

Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Charlie

Honda / Re: XR250

Not too many performance parts for the motor, it was only around for a couple of years before it was changed to an RFVC design.

Wiseco still do a 10:1 compression piston for it. Mine hasn't been run in yet, so I can't comment on any performance improvement. The maximum oversize they do is 2mm if you want a bit of extra displacement.

Megacycle Cams still list performance camshafts for it (http://www.megacyclecams.com/catalog/catalog.pdf), but I have have never tried to get one.

Left my decompressor in, it makes it easer to kick and has never given any trouble.

There is an article here http://www.oldrice.com/Swissoil.html on fitting an oil cooler to an older dry-sump honda motor. Shouldn't be too difficult to do something similar.
