If it is only fine cracking, What about a fuel tank sealer paint?
I used some stuff many years ago which was very thick and rubbery on a tank which had some fine cracking and it worked for a long time. The cracks filled up with the paint and sealed themselves.
I strapped the tank to a cement mixer with sand and gravel in it. After a while the interior was perfectly clean and nicely abraded and once dry ready to paint.

A forum member sent me an email recommended MT&C engineers in Silverdale, Sydney for crack testing. I checked and they are very reasonably priced so I might get them to magnaflux the crankshaft and rods and I will do the rest at home.

Thanks, Yes, It is a bit of an overkill sending stuff away so I have explored the "at home" suggestion and it looks like the go.
The penetrant die kit isn't expensive and a great thing to have in the workshop to check for cracking that you can't see.
Dial guage and mount not expensive either.

I just bought a cheap engine with a stuffed top end from a broken valve. I want to get the crank, conrods and case tested for cracks and distortion before going to the expense of a rebuild. Anyone know where I can get this done in the Sydney region?

A mate of mine who is a hard core physicist explained to me once how standing waves develop in exhausts.
On his advice I started with an overly long pipe and kept shortening it bit by bit with an angle grinder. When I got to the sweet spot it went like a rocket. Reattached the muffler and was happy as a pig in....

If it is still good and clear you can scan it at hi res and send it to a printing company who do stickers.
Alternatively search the net for a hi res image matching your sticker and get that printed.
A friend printed his own on his home printer. It looked good but the first time he was in the rain the ink ran!

White in the middle and sooty black around the edges sounds to me like the wrong heat range plug. I suspect you need a plug where the tip runs cooler.

After experiencing detonation with old fuel at high RPM, I found this document which is the best I have seen to explain a very complex subject in fairly easy to understand terms

Anyone got any recommendations for someone who can fabricate stainless steel exhaust parts? Preferably near Sydney but not essential.
