Ok so, resleeving looks like the best way ahead but I can't find a listing anywhere for a suitable sleeve. LA sleeves don't seem to list one for an RM 250 older than 1989. Am I missing something sleepy? And if I go for an RM sleeve, I'll end up with RM porting, right? may have to get one made, sounds like an expensive operation. Can anyone recommend a good engineer who does resleeving or makes sleeves. Someone I can call and discuss my options. I'm in Fitzroy Crossing, WA , I'm going to have to send it to someone to have the job done anyway so anywhere in Australia is ok by me. Thanks for all the info guys. Great forum!
No standard shocks Maxpower. And overall condition is pretty good now.  There were a few parts missing or damaged when I got it. Wheels came from eBay in the states. Some parts from UK, Holland, and here in Auz, all over the place really. The plastics are new except the tank and I had the head off. It had already been rebored with new piston and the bore is 69mm. As far as I know, that's the last oversize for PE.

Thanks guys, yes the part numbers are the same for base gaskets for 1980 PE and RM Lozza. Could be a go. But the piston pin is a different number between the 2 so maybe use PE piston in RM barrel but then porting probably won't match. I'll check out costs for resleeving and plating, see if they're an option. Porting, that'll be the difference for sure sleepy. I like the broad power range of the PE. Very easy to ride. I'd guess the RM would be more peaky.

Tech Talk / PE 250/RM 250 top end swap
« on: June 04, 2015, 04:40:55 pm »
Hi all, my PE 250T is on it's last rebore so I'm looking for a replacement barrel to get rebored and swap out when the time comes. I see a couple of 1980 RM 250 top ends on the old evil bay. They look identical but from what I can gather the part numbers are different. Does anyone know if the top ends are interchangeable between the PE and the RM 250 of similar vintage? Also I want to strip the paint from the barrel and head before re boring. What's the best method? Blasting? Chemicals? Or what? Thanks in advance. Here's the PE as she stands. Runs great. Suspension not so great. Brakes also not so great but I do love this bike!

Hey lads, if yur passing through Fitzroy you're welcome to lob over at our place. Kimberduro!! Make it happen. Start of the dry season now and all the tracks have set rock solid! Not as much fun as the mud for me, higher speeds and harder landings when it all goes wrong.  :-\  still, the country is awesome!
Here's the PE, got side panels! Noice!

Thanks a million guys. Good info. Those 3 parts and the lock washer are still available so definitely sounds like the way to go.

Suzuki / PE 250T coming together

This is my 1980 PE250. She's rebored with new piston. Has 080 stamped in the top of it. Am I right in thinking this is the last rebore size? Also, she's just developed a slight oil leak from the gearbox output shaft seal. Can I pick this seal out to replace it or does it need to be driven out from the inside? Wasn't planning on splitting the cases just yet.
Also I need a couple of parts to finish her off. Speedo and chain guard. Both like rocking horse shizzle it seems but thought I'd ask.
Anyway, the bike goes very well and is a blast to ride.

Wanted / Speedo and chain guard for PE250T
« on: February 23, 2015, 02:26:50 pm »
Hi all, I'm rebuilding a PE250T and I'm on the hunt for a speedo and chain guard and front sprocket cover. I've got a brand new TS125C speedo for sale in the for sale section. Would swap for a speedo from a TS250 or Suzuki SP or PE of course. Anyone?
This is the TS125 speedo.

Yeh, I've seen a fair bit on the net about the Broome club and the Willare 4 hour, definitely want to get to that this year. Have to search around for more info on the Derby club. I've seen the sign to the track but not checked it out. I've not raced but been riding most days since about 1983. This last 3 or 4 months is the most off road riding I've done. I'm well into it and really want to do some racing when the season's underway.  I'd be up for a trip up the Gibb though. How dya do it?  Transport bikes to good spots or ride em? I'm gonna need a bigger fuel tank!

Thanks monaro308, that would make mine a 1980 PE250T, good to know.
Evo550, Derby! You're just down the road! I'm looking to join an off road racing club, is Broome the nearest one to us that you know of?
Thanks for the offer of help jerry. There are a couple of parts I'm trying to track down. I've got no chain guard or front sprocket cover. I'm also looking for a speedometer. Hard to find parts, I know. I got a speedo for a ts125. It's brand new, 0 Kms. A bit too new to go on the PE. I'd like to get a PE or TS250 or SP one. My bikes certainly no show pony but she's pretty clean and mechanically very sound. Chain guard and speedo would be nice finishing touches. Oh, and side panels but I can get repro ones easily enough.
Yes Hoony, nothing beats a good hoon to blow out the cobwebs. Even in the heat.  The last lot of rain we had turned the place into a proper mud fest, great fun!!
Thanks for the welcome messages lads.

Hi, I've just joined the forum so wanted to say hello to all. I'm from the UK but been in Oz just over a year. I got myself a 1980/81 (not sure exactly which year) PE250 that's coming together nicely. Still collecting parts here an there but she runs well. I'm living in Fitzroy Crossing, WA. It's a great place to go hoonin' around on the PE. Plenty of dirt roads. I'll get some photos up when I work out how. Look forward to chatting with y'all.
