Riding Spots / Re: Queensland
« on: June 20, 2016, 11:12:14 pm »
The Dalby Moto Trailride Series this year has18 rides all up,from Maleny, out to Barcaldine, and south into NSW at North Star(some rides have been cancelled,or rescheduled due to the drought). All of these rides are run by volunteers, and raise money for local schools, and charities.Checkout the Dalby Moto Calender, and also give the organisers a call,to checkout conditions, and terrain type. The rides are run under MA permits, and a couple of years ago a better deal was worked out with MQ,for one day licences, and entry forms.Bunya is the longest running ride, starting over 30 years ago,and is one of the best,as they alternate between 2 sites, along the Great Dividing Range, near Bell, north of Dalby.Trails vary in length with North Star having over 160km of marked trails, over an area of 500sq km,all of the trails are opened at the same time, and the access to the longer trails are closed earlier,to make sure everyone is back before dark.By opening the trails altogether riders can have 5 different combinations ,and there is a free ride area in a large quarry, that is only 10 minutes out and 10 minutes back from the campground, good if you want to take the kids on the open track,to see how they handle it.Old bike, and rider friendly, with bypasses on the harder sections, and a barbecue at the fuel stop on the 85 km loop .call 0428545367, or North Star Trailride Facebook, for more info, and online sign up,also sign upon the day,July 30/31,2016.

Only a week away, ride day,and party,to celebrate the Goondiwindi MCC 40th birthday, everybody is welcome to come and have a ride,or just bench race about the good old days.We have been getting a lot of photos, and news paper articles from the last 40 years, some of these are going up on the facebook page, and a lot of pics from other events from the mid 70s on,that we were involved in,are on my facebook page, which you can get to from the Gundy FB.Even Gally ,Dave Armstrong, and a few other riders have put there two bobs with in,definitely memory lane.

My Profile photo was taken in 1981,at the Gundy Track,Dave is on the Kawasaki,on my right, one of the few times I beat him,and he really did own a baby shit green P76,and sold it,and he reckons I am the dumb one!

General Discussion / Picking Winners

I have had a good couple of weeks, like a hamster on a hamster wheel that just won't stop.We have been busting our asses getting ready for our trailride(NSTR2015)only to get flooded out,on Thursday morning, and having to cancel the event. We had 28,000 contacts thru social media, and only a few turned up,all the roads were closed by Friday morning. We have held 2 wakes,so we have managed to reduce the food and beer stocks a bit.

I have been talking to a mate,Dave, who I have been riding with since 1975,reminiscing about all the things that could have been, like this years Trailride. He reckoned my decision to trade my YZ250B on a PE250, was like swapping a Porsche 911,for a Datsun 180B,I thought my Poseidon shares should pick up soon, and cover the losses, and when Ralph Sarich sends over the Orbital Engine for the 180B,I am going to pick up the Beta video recorders, and the 8track players,I have in the missile silo, they should be worth heaps.
I am convinced that my atomic powered Leyland P76 is a sure winner,I just have to workout how to carry the 4 tonne of lead shielding.Dave is pretty smart,he thinks Russell Coight is responsible for e=mc2,as proven when he posted a photo of his boots drying in the de mister vents in his truck(a proven RC theorum)on Thursday, during the deluge that washed out our ride.I have just had the stitches out of my finger, that got between the 10 m two way aerial(that we use at the ride) and the ute,and Sean's broken foot and ribs are healing,at least Dubbo didn't call and tell us there were no more Ambulances left in Northern NSW.

All past Mountain Men,except Gally are returning to Echo Valley for the 40th,Gunter is bringing the KX500 he won on,with him.Flood,Ganquist,Bell ,Dack,Carroll,Leisk,Bailey,Armstrong,Boyle etc will be there. Will be the event of the year. They have a better parking plan this time,it always amazes me that Toowoomba slaps parking fines on visitors to their city's sporting events, they do it at football games as well.I hope they fix the PA up so we can hear Bob Johnson.

THE RIDE HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Unfortunately due to heavy rain this morning, and more forecast,we took the decision to cancel the ride for2015.It takes many months of organisation to get all the services in place to run the ride safely and smoothly. There are  other events coming up (the Goondiwindi400 off road)that we share volunteers, medical and other service organisations with,in the country many people wear many hats(our President  scrutineers the Trophy Trucks and Buggies at the G400)

We urge people to support the Dalby Moto series, which is the largest off road motorcycle series in the world, with over 12,000 riders participating each year. All the events are not for profit, raise funds for local schools and charities. Many of the volunteers have no bike background, but they sure know how to put on a good event.

The can do attitude of the people in this area has had an impact on everyone in the sport, one day licences, self penalising starting gates,ACU/MA  sanctioned Trailrides all started in South West Qld.

Don't forget the Goondiwindi MCC 40th coming up on August 22nd,and the Mountain Man 40th on November7/8.I have been going through old photos and have found a few from both Tracks,I do miss oiled tracks,no dust,no track maintenance on race day,no ruts,ah the good old days(after all the oil came from the earth, but hard work spraying it on)

I know some people are upset by the debate, but I think the conversation is worth having.I feel extremely sorry for Matt and everyone else involved, hopefully his injuries will heal, and he can continue his career.

Getting close now,the weather gods may add a bit of dust control over the next couple of days, but the weekend looks good, the ADB sub offers have turned up,6 issues for $25 usually $60,only for NSTR2015 riders.Anyone who likes it tough, the 6km Enchanted Forest section is taking the best riders 1.5 hours, best described as a bad(good) hill climb without a hill. The Track Markers think Hugh Keays Byrne plays the Hero in Mad Max 1&4,and they pull the legs off flies, then let them go,knowing if they ever land, they can't take off again.

Yes we all hope he is OK,everyone's worst nightmare. Those people and clubs that organise and officiate in  events will take a step back, and wait for the outcome of the investigation. You really do need eyes in the back of your head!and 200% communication.

I still have my Blue and Yellow Jersey I bought from Phil Thew,to this day it was the best jersey I ever had,I bought a retro style at Xmas ,but it is not the same.I can remember riding at Echo Valley in the late 70's,before you could wear nylons,I had bought a pair of Yoko pants, with fire proof lining and leather seat,I had left my leathers at home, determined I was going to race in the Nylons(we had been wearing nylons in the Darling Downs MXSeries)I was knocked back, and told unless I had leathers,I was spectating for the day.I knew the Clerk of the Course, and he offered me his leathers,I was 11 stone,he was about 20 stone, anyway I cooled down, and rode in his leathers, mind you I did'nt win the fashion award.I think it was at Mountain Man,1980,and the 125 C grade had 50 riders with 30 gates,so all the Brisbane, and coast riders were given the front row,and the country boys were behind,a young bloke from Collarenabri and I worked out if we lined up behind, but between the city boys,we could go just before the gate dropped, and ride straight through the front line,we were in about 3rd and 4th,before the leader went down, causing the usual C grade first corner pile up,it seemed like a good idea!

Getting some old photos together, they are going up on the facebook page,we are hoping Troy Bayliss can make it out(1980-1981).Although it is not a race day,I have challenged Dave Sutherland,to a one lap dash, wearing our old gear(we both have newer bikes),we were both at the first race in October 1975,Dave won the 125MX,and I came 2nd in the 250 Trailies,so any other first fleeters out there can join in.

Just going through old photos for Goondi 40th,and found some of 1979and 1980 Mountain Man,Pelle, Landman, Peter Boyle, and all the usual suspects,I will have to get Gibbit to put them up.I remember Peter Boyle(Phil Thew Suzuki) as the smoothest rider ever at Echo Valley,he did'nt look like he was going fast, but no one could get near him. Also some of the 1980 Supercross in Sydney, huge crowd, standing room only.Does anyone remember who was"USA2"on a Suzuki.
