Tech Talk / Re: Twostroke VM jetting, just want to think out loud.
« on: August 27, 2024, 08:46:47 am »
Hey John,
...........After 40 years of building racing fourstroke fours, I am back playing with aircooled twostrokes again, the thinking, and methodology, of a 65 year old is so much different from when I was 15.

I wonder if I will learn as much in the next 50 years? :-)
My maths puts me about 5 years younger than you and I am more confident about sorting problems now than I ever was. My only concern is which decade did you forget about, was it the psychedelic 1960s? On second thoughts, maybe it was the Naughties?

Look forward to reading your findings.....

Hi Everyone,

Just updating as this tank has gone on to greener pastures:

In other news can someone please identify this, it has the pointy S in the hub?

Thanks in advance and yes it is surplus to my needs.

Hi Everyone,

Rearranging my shed and I discovered another throttle assembly that I will not use on a Trials bike, possibly off a Husqvarna? Please let me know either way?

Thanks for looking

Suzuki / Re: RL250 forks - are they 35mm or 1.3/8inch ?
« on: January 19, 2024, 10:27:08 am »
Hi Everyone,
Hello,
This is probably a silly question, but maybe not.
I have an RL250 Beamish with what I thought were 35mm stanchions that need replacing or refurbiing.
There are several RL 250s in my shed and I have not measured exactly but they are supposed to be 35mm. Yes I understand your question and I think it comes down to which Beamish you have? Is it Yellow as that is the later Beamish model and maybe 325cc?  When SUZUKI wouldn't listen to Gordon Farley,  they ended up with, shall we say less than perfect bike that did not sell well. The story goes that Beamish bought all of the remaining RL 250 and reworked them in the UK. They later models were more Beamish and less Suzuki so perhaps imperial stanchions were more readily available in England. The tripple clamps would work either way as they are close in size.

Hope this helps

Greg

Hi Everyone,

My shed needs some more space so this DS 80 is up for swaps, this is how it came to me:

Feel free to correct me if I got it wrong.

Interested in anything Trials related?

Thanks for looking.

General Discussion / Re: TODAY'S TIP :-)

Hi Everyone,

For many a year now, I have been gradually filling a depression in my front lawn by washing bikes in the same spot. What I have learnt is Trials bikes do not carry much dirt and debris..... Still have a depression!

General Discussion / Re: Ideas for carb jet holder?

Anyone got a good idea for holding a range of main & pilot jets, I really couldn't be stuffed drilling & tapping 100 holes.
Hi John,

Have you considered something like this:

Hi Everyone,
With that savage cutaway for the exhaust it's got to be an RL250 head. They would be 70mm bore from memory.
George, this is a RL 250 head:

John, Here is the photo of unknown (to me) head that I should have posted:

Tech Talk / Re: Suspension spring search thread.

Hi Everyone,
If you've got something close, let me know, I can adjust settings to compensate.
John, you did not mention progressive rate springs. So I have gone through my 3 baskets (that resemble milk crates) of spare springs and shocks and had a look for you. Pretty much all of these have come off Trials bikes so softer rate but some way too hard for Trials that might suit your needs?

Edit photo of black springs: wire diameter is 7 mm.

These are close to your dimensions but have similar wire diameter to yours so not sure if they are any good to you? Most of mine are smaller internal dimensions and smaller in wire dimensions.

Not sure if this helps?
Greg

Hi Everyone,
You have bought back fond memories John as my first full size bike was a TS 185 B and I rode the hell out of it as a teenager. Sorry no photos but I borrowed one from the net:

Hi Everyone,
My guess is RM125B. They didn't have a squish band so best to measure to edge of combustion chamber to get an idea of the bore size.
Here is another photo showing overall size of the head, not super clear but 55 mm is what I make it to be. Not having a matching cylinder makes it a little more challenging to identify but all of the fins are complete and not cut away.

Thanks for your help!
