General Discussion / 1989 YZ250 tank
« on: December 07, 2020, 08:46:24 pm »
Has anyone been able to repair a tank with the embedded brass nuts that hold the shrouds in place where the bolt has punched through to the inside? Being the lower one it will spend most of its life in fuel so is there a tried & proven fix available?

If you have high strength/high tensile fasteners then let them know & they will need to bake them out to diffuse any hydrogen embrittlement from the pickling & the plating processes. They should know the time & temp necessary, I forget what it is but its hours at very high temp (in the hundreds of degrees C, maybe 300C for 6 hours or similar). If they dont know then they should be able to find out via their chemical supplier or even google. If they dont do this there is a good chance that some things will snap like frozen carrots if under load.

Whispers in the showers in Qld????? That's gotta be dangerous.

Anyway, rode at Crystal Brook last weekend, track was superb, looks a postcard. Asked around & don't think its going to be held there. Either that or they were keeping it a secret & didn't want anyone to know

Yep, that's what I'm talking about thx Mick. Don't think this guy is uploading the files into the web though as he is doing it as a business & selling the finished parts.

Anybody out there been playing around with 3D printing to rebuild old broken or unobtainable parts? Things like OEM front sprocket covers, stator covers etc look like they would be perfect candidates for 3D & once done, the program files can be uploaded into space for free sharing...…...
