Kawasaki / Re: KLX's - a shared disease
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:30:40 pm »
Hey guys figured I'd share my klx and get some insight. I upgraded to a vm34 and the change is amazing. Pulls wheelies easily. the throttle response and acceleration is awesome. My problem is cold starts. It takes forever to start it cold. It floods with choke EVERYTIME then I have to let it sit and start it with the throttle cracked. Main jet is 230 pilot 25 needle is at the leanest point.

YES! Omg this bike is so bad for bending kickstarters. I'm on my third... I will try this thanks!

Ok .... today's piece of (probably) useless information.
I have had endless trouble with kickstarts on the KLX since rebuilding the motor. Even with new knuckles (old lever) they destroy themselves fairly quickly.
I have just fitted a nos genuine Suzuki TS185 lever complete. Part # 26300-29302. Perfect fit on the splines, and a better shape both in fit and use.
Hopefully I will be back sometime soon to tell you it has not bent, and has not destroyed itself.
Next time I rebuild a motor, I will leave the compression as it was meant to be !

Tech Talk / Kx400 owners help! Need some suggestions!
« on: April 12, 2014, 03:02:52 pm »
So I just acquired a kx400(finally!!!!!!) anyway anyone know of any quick or "must have" mods for these bikes? I have works shocks in rear. Probably going to get some race thech or works springs too. I found one after market pipe builder but he's asking around 500 for his pipes. Any other sources I could use? Wouldn't mind buying used. Thanks

Tech Talk / Re: Rebuilding "Non rebuildable" gas shocks
« on: March 15, 2014, 07:21:17 am »
THANKS FOR THE INFO WILLIAM! i must have been mislead bc from what i read the kyb's were very nice shocks for the day, and maybe even for today. I will see what i can find, thanks for the heads up on progressive, i thought they were rebuildable. It will be hard to find some 18" used shocks that are rebuildable though. :/

Tech Talk / Rebuilding "Non rebuildable" gas shocks
« on: March 14, 2014, 06:29:34 am »
Hey guys, I have been hearing a lot of talk lately about rebuilding nonrebuildable gas charged shocks by simply drilling a hole for a schrader valve and refilling them. Now obviously you can't just drill the hole anywhere etc etc anyway I have t really been able to find much on this. I have the 79 or 80 klx250 shocks by kyb with the remote reservoir. Now I found a little on race tech site but the ones they are rebuilding don't have a reservoir etc. Now I have also seen where people are Installing bleed valves for oil. Obviously two different things but I'm guessing wouldn't hurt to do both??? Anyway i really just want to rebuild these kyb shocks I here they were top notch back In the day so I really don't want to downgrade to regular 18" progressives when That would be way more expensive anyway. If any one has ever rebuilt these please help. I believe they also came on the kdx and Kx for a while. Thanks guys.

David that helps tremendously. I did completely disassemble the shocks and put new seals and oil in but was unsure of how much so I could have easily put too much in. And when I took them apart I did check for straightness of the upper tube. I will however remove the brace and drain and replace my oil with the proper capacity you have provided and see if I can get the correct travel out if these things. Since day one you've been a lifesaver thanks again David!

here's my bighorn project. i have both the klx and an f5, if i were you id find an engine. no power compares to the power of the f5 when you get it to run right. unfortunately they lost popularity due to there temperamental nature of the rotary. i was even able to find the stinger pipe. of course i do LOVE my klx250 also, but power is absent compared to the f5 350. good luck let me know if you need parts i have tons of used f5/f8/f9 parts.
