Hi Alex greetings from Classic MXWA. Great work with the YZ125K.

The Classic MXWA club (formerly Pre85MXWA) is a progressive family orientated club which was formed in November 2009 to ensure the sport of Vintage Motocross in Western Australia continues to evolve and ensure all eras are catered for by one club.

At present any off road bike built before 31st December 1989 (1989 Model Year) will be welcomed into the club, as per Motorcycling Australia’s Manual of Motorcycle Sport.

A member may choose to be involved as a social member, ride non-competitive fun events or ultimately race in closed to club and open events. It is the goal of the club to offer Come Try’s, Vintage MX, Scrambles, Vinduro’s and other disciplines but we need your membership, participation and expertise to ensure the club continues to grow.

Ultimately the club’s goal is to create an environment that ensures classic motorcycling remains an enjoyable and fulfilling pastime, with a progressive and receptive approach to the sport. For more information check www.classicmxwa.com or our Classic MXWA Facebook page.

If you have the opportunity it would be great to see you at our upcoming Bridgetown Scramble on the 28th of September.

The Classic MX season is well underway and it’s time to start making plans to be at Classic MXWA’s annual Bridgetown Scramble. The event will be held on Sunday 28th September over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Once again Classic MXWA is extremely fortunate and privileged to be able to hold the Scramble at the Wheatley’s Orange Grove property. If you haven’t been to ride or watch the Scramble at Orange Grove you’ve missed out on hard and fast classic racing on what is probably WA’s most picturesque natural terrain MX track.

Camping will be allowed on the property (no dogs & no hassles) and there will be BBQ’s facilities available, entertainment and a bon fire to make the night one to remember. In the true tradition of classic mx there will be ample opportunity to catch up with old mates and make new ones while re-living those races that have long since crossed the finish line. For those not so keen to camp out the Bridgetown Riverside Chalets are just down the hill form the event or alternatively there are a number of accommodation and dining options available in Bridgetown and further information regarding these options are available from the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre www.bridgetown.com.au (if you are looking to head into town a booking with your chosen venue might be recommended as it is a long weekend)

On Sunday there will be on-site catering for breakfast and lunch too.

There will be competitive classes for Pre65, Pre75, Pre80, Pre90, over 60s class and for the first time a 125 cc class.  In keeping with Classic MXWA’s family friendly ethos there will be a Junior A and Junior B non-competitive class too.

This year will see Breast Cancer as Classic MXWA’s chosen charity “Bloke’s In Bras”. Once again there will be a 3 x rider, 2 x lap dash for glory after Sunday’s racing is done, all in the name of charity. Last year’s ‘Undies on the Outside’ race proved to be extremely amusing so this year promises to be just as much fun!

For more information please refer to Classic MXWA’s web site www.classicmxwa.comor email [email protected] Alternatively contact organisers Paul Copley on Mob: 0407369930 or Nick Maxfield on Mob: 0427603182

This really is an event not to miss, so start making plans to be at this year’s Bridgetown Scramble.

On-line Entries open 18 August 2014 https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=13579

The Pre85MXWA Club was formed in 2009 to fill a void in the Classic Motocross scene that had developed in WA. It recently became apparent that with the club’s growth and increasingly diverse membership base covering bikes from the 50s to Pre90 the club’s name did not truly represent the true diversity of machines and interest in all eras.

A Special Meeting was held and a Special Resolution passed to change the name of our association from Pre 85 MXWA (Inc.) to the Classic Motocross Club of WA (Inc.). In order to keep things simple at events and in recognition with our heritage we will be known as Classic MXWA.

So come along with us as Classic MXWA continues to evolve and refine the sport of Classic Motocross here in Western Australia.

Next event 80s Night (Saturday 3rd May) and Come Try Day (Sunday 4th May)

For more information www.classicmxwa.com email [email protected] or Classic MXWA Facebook page. Call Paul on 0407369930 to discuss all things Classic MXWA.

The Classic MX season got off to a howling start at Darkan on Saturday the 29th of March with Darkan at Dusk. Right on cue a cold front moved across the South West during Saturday and brought strong winds but also delivered Hillman Park its first rain for the season. Once things settled down and dried out competitors and spectators settled down to an awesome evening of Classic MX fun under lights.

Thanks to all for the positive responses and the information so far. Please keep it coming. The Pre85MXWA Club is very keen to help Jimmy get the RC ready for 2014! We're pretty sure even Jimmy was surprised how stock it looks. 35 years is a long time between rides...

Earlier this year Jimmy Ellis mentioned that he knew where his 1978 Team Honda RC250 was but getting it across from the States was looking to be a mission.

The Pre85MXWA Club got behind Jimmy and the rest is now history! The RC has made the epic trip from Jimmy's hometown of Cobalt, Connecticut and touched down last night in Bunbury, Western Australia. Thanks to Pre85MXWA Club members and Jimmy's current sponsor Busselton Motorcycles for sorting the final leg of the journery.

We're all looking forward to seeing Jimmy and the RC on the track in 2014.

Sunday the 29th also sees the running of a Prostate Cancer Pony Xpress Undie Challenge. After a hard day of banging bars WA's Classic MX riders will be riding a very hard and fast Pony Xpress with all funds raised from the Pony Xpress will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

See Jumpin' Jimmy Ellis wearing his undies on the outside for this extremely worthy cause!

Thanks VMX247 we're happy to say the Pre85MXWA Club is going from strength to strength with its progressive approach to classic motocross which is resulting in fun for the whole family. The weekend of the 7th and 8th of September was no exception.

Saturday saw an extremely strong turnout for the overnight camp. A light shower of rain was well timed for dust suppression on Sunday, while club members got into Saturday night’s festivities buoyed by the thought of a nice damp track. The mood and night was great. It was a case of snooze and you lose when it came to the awesome evening meal of lamb & gravy rolls. After dinner, hours and hours were spent around the fire bench racing and solving the world’s problems. Things seem to be far more simple after a few drinks. Top marks to all members who were able to attend as it turned out to be the best social night we’ve had at Darkan to date and demonstrated how the club is continuing to grow.

Sunday dawned perfect with a few aching heads taking in the bright Darkan sunlight and the sound of a flock of sheep on a mission. What got the sheep so excited so early in the morning remains a bit of mystery…anyway, onto riding.

This weekend saw the introduction of an over 35 Veteran/Modern class which was a great hit with old and new members alike. Sticking to the club’s philosophy of being progressive there’s nothing like having a range of bikes and classes to give members the maximum bang for your buck on the day. It’s a lot easier to justify a shed full of bikes if you can use them on a semi regular basis. It was great to see our regulars on a variety of modern MX bikes with a few Enduro bikes thrown into the mix too.

As usual, the kids were catered for as well, with some fast laps being cut by various 65cc, 85cc & 125cc riders. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion these guys are lapping Darkan a little quicker than most!

Once again Jimmy Ellis was there on the Busselton Motorcycles/South West Yamaha-Bunbury YZ465 showing he’s still got it. It’s great to see Jimmy enthused about getting on the bike time after time. If you can stick with him you’ll learn a lot…

Commiserations to Greg whose mint 1989 RM250K decided to spit him off with a resultant trip to hospital and some time off the bike. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back ASAP.

The number of bikes is continuing to grow with some of the machines being enough to stop grown men in their tracks. It turns out Paul C and James H have a thing for 1987 CR500’s, thanks to Troy for distracting them by riding past on the best looking 1987 CR500RH ever. Great stuff, awesome bike.

All in all it was another perfect Go-Moto weekend at Darkan. A big thanks to all involved for their tireless efforts and making the weekend run so smoothly. Also major thanks to Paul B who has a fleet of machines dedicated to the club to ensure Darkan is as good as it can be for every meet. Thanks also to Nick M who bought along his Ditchwitch to run a waterline from the dam to the club rooms, Simon for the genset to cook the roast lamb and to Mark for providing a quad for Paul C to get around on; it certainly beats crutches hey Paul?
