Suzuki / 1984 RM 500 frontend on a 1979 RM 400
« on: January 04, 2014, 12:54:06 pm »
So I picked up a complete 1984 RM500 frontend, forks, triples and wheel. I'm in the process of swapping out the frontend and ran into a snag. The steering stem is short. I had my 1979 400's stem pressed into the RM500's lower triple clamp, still to short. Am I missing something? Do I need a different stem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ralph.

Wanted / 1979 RM 400 rear axle
« on: September 06, 2013, 11:13:00 pm »
Hi all, I'm in need of a rear axle for my '79 RM 400. I know the '79/'80 RM 250 or RM 400 rear axle will work. If you have the spacers, that would be great too. Thanks, Ralph

Suzuki / Maico 440 piston in RM 400
« on: March 05, 2013, 05:38:03 am »
Hey guys, I'm installing a Maico 440 piston in my '79 RM 400. Ran into one problem, the side to side play on the piston end of the rod. I have .160" side to side play. My engine builder said we need shims/thrust washers here, to limit the side to side play. What did you guys do to eliminate this? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking at 18mm id x 28-30mm od x 1.5mm thick, thanks.

Suzuki / '79/'80 RM 400 Connecting rod
« on: February 11, 2013, 03:55:01 am »
Hi all, I'm looking for a connecting rod for my '79 RM 400. There was someone last year selling billet rods from Australia (i believe), but I can't locate that person now. Would anyone know who that person is and how I could contact them? I know I've read on this forum that a KTM 380 rod will work, but the KTM rod measures 135mm and the RM's measures 136mm. If anyone knows of any other make of rod that would work, I would appreciate your help.

Many thanks from a USA Vintage racer.
