The alloy lever strikes the knuckle retaining nut? Is that right?
Yes that's right,i just had to grind a small piece out of the lever to get it to clear the retaining nut and also grind a small amount off the back of the lever ba cause it hit the casing where the seal sits in,really both minor mods and can't be seen basically.i have rode it a couple of times since fitting and it is actually much easier to use than the original

Picked up a new 426 kick starter today, there a bit shorter than the 490 but should be ok,the knuckle fits the spline but just needs a small mod because the lever hits the nut when folded out,but the lever fits the 490 knuckle so can make one from two if needed, hope this helps

try the one of your ktm380 if you still have they fit yz250h not ideal for 490 as just suitable for 250
Bit late the 380 went to fund the 490 engine rebuild but that's interesting to know,my 380 had a shorter kick starter and a hole drilled in the barrel to lower compression, apparently the broke the cases starting them,it would be way to short for the 490

Thanks rocket frog,I have heard that the 400/426 fits the spline but there's some modification to do,and that the 426 lever fits the 490 knuckle,I will, start my search at my local wreckers and go from there, I have fitted a decompression valve so a shorter lever may not be such an issue

Yamaha / Yz490 decompression valve
« on: August 15, 2019, 10:23:50 am »
Gday
I'm about to fit a decompression valve in the head of my 490,my question is do I drill and tap the 10mm hole straight through the head or do I make a stepped hole with a smaller diameter hole on the combustion side, the decompression valve is only about half the length of the spark plug thread which is the same thickness of the head, any ideas thanks

Yamaha / Re: YZ 490 K airfilter. anyone no the part no??

Gray,I'm no expert on these but I think the j model and the 465 before it may share the same air cleaner. The 83 490 the shock got moved to a different position therefore the air box was different,I now know this because I bought one that was supposed to fit 82/83/84 models but no way would it fit my 83,good luck

Gday woody, thought I might get a bike to enter the Aus championships this year, there's a place with my name on it,yes last place,I think this pipe should have some sort of seals on it,going to look into that, just doesn't fit well at all on the bike, just don't want to bend and cut unless I have to

Gday has anybody had trouble getting a pro form pipe to fit correctly or do I need to do some minor alterations to get it to line up. The pipe is basically brand new but come with the bike,it doesn't fit square on the engine and seems to hit the air filter box if I get it square on there, just wanted to see if anyone has had trouble before I start adjustments

Go and talk to your local sign shop,I took one of my old plastic number plates to mine, they scanned it to get the size and then made the design to what I wanted,$25 dollars to do the design then $25 per item printed, pay cash and the price all of a sudden changed,I just go in there now and get my back grounds with name and numbers printed because there on his file

When the bearings go in they should seat up against the hub either side and the spacer should be hard up the bearings,if your bearings are seated right and you have a gap then the spacer may be to short
