Vintage Track / Nepean Dirt Track meeting 30 July 2017
« on: August 02, 2017, 10:22:22 am »
Here are a few shots from the Pre '70 Open and Pre '75 Open at Sunday's meeting at Nepean. I'm getting quicker with each outing on the Triumph Thunderbird. Sunday's 3rd place in the Pre '70 Open was very significant for this old codger. My first motorcycle racing trophy was won on 25 June 1967 and Sunday's trophy is 50 years later !! :P

no wonder you've got a crook knee :o, look at the angle its pointing ;D

Ha ! Ha ! Ha !...........That's the GOOD knee !! ;D ;D

Here are 2 shots coming out of the Speedway corner at Nepean, the first last year on the SC 500 and the second in May, this year on the Tribsa 650...........All these photos courtesy of Mark Staudinger.......

Here's an update on my Triumph Thunderbird.......Since purchasing it in February, I have been troubled by a painful right knee. After an MRI, I will have to go under the knife to repair the damage, mainly caused many years ago, playing soccer and aggravated in my big race crash at the end of 2014. As a Public patient, I have to wait until 19 October to see a Surgeon...Here are a few shots from my first serious outing on the unit, at Nepean on 28 May......It's next outing will be at the Charity meeting at Nepean on 27 August. If the pain is not too bad after that meeting, I will race The Australian Masters at Griffith on 28 and 29 October.....In the meantime, I'm walking like Dennis Weaver from Gunsmoke !!

Hi Dave, I have been keepin my eye out for a donk to fit up in a 75 DT400B dirt track project. Most yamaha 400s wont fit my frame so im looking for prefix 501 not 510. Obviously motoSycho has first dibs.
Cheers, Bell.

Just to let you know, I'm 65 and my eyes are not good.......even with a magnifying glass the engine no is hard to read....It's either 374-000489 or 574-000489..........someone told me it's DT 400C, but we need more EXPERT forum members to confirm...

I have a complete DT 400 engine and the Flywheel/Rotor/Magneto is in good condition.........A long story to why I bought it, however, I paid $100 for it and it cost me another $100 to get it delivered from Qld.........If anyone wants it I can supply photos...So it owes me $200......

I had a test ride on Sunday of a 1953 BSA framed 650 Triumph Thunderbird....It was for sale, so I bought it !!.....As if my SC 500 wasn't scary enough.......I'm looking forward to racing this methanol burner this year...For anyone going to the Dargle Resto in March. I'll have the unit on show and be giving the SC 500 a blast on the grasstrack.. :D 8)

True enough.........however, already running 2 head gaskets.........#55 Dennis Whilesmith said his 250 was quicker than his 360 on the day......

it was only sideways in one pic, grip looks excellent .... :o :D :D

Believe me, it was SLIPPERY on top and with the VERY PEAKY power of the SC 500, I couldn't really open the throttle hard until I got it straightened up........hence, not much sideways........LOL !!......in the OLD days on oil it was much easier.......these days I can't really hook in until the tracks dry out a little......Very Frustrating at times......
Here's a shot from Nepean, earlier this year, when the track is dry. ;D ;D ;) ;)

The Classic Longtrack Masters was very testing in THE  WET for my SC 500...........could have done with a Knobby on the rear.....

In the Pre 75 my bike was HONKING out of the gate, but VERY greasy conditions, made it hell in the corners......

Special thanks to Bill MacFarlane for the great photos.........https://fotenx.smugmug.com/
