Competition / MICK ANDREWS WORKS RIDE
« on: January 04, 2011, 08:58:58 am »
At the Upper Hutt twinshock event Mick Andrews will ride a rare 1958 Works 500 Matchless in the Pre 65 races plus a Rickman Metisse Mk3 with a 1968 600 Matchless motor in the Pre '70 class. This engine was one of the last 3 made by the factory for a speedway promoter in England but when his order fell through Tim Gibbes picked them up and bought back to NZ as Rickmans. One of these 3 Rickmans  is now in a private museum in Greece, and the other machine will be on display at the event. NZ MX Champion Ken Cleghorn won many titles on that bike. So if you have some spare time and a couple of dollars why not pop across the Tasman for the weekend, its sealed roads all the way to the pits with a few motels and the dinner venue within a 5km radius of venues. The Upper Hutt International Classic Bike Festival venue at Trentham Memorial Park is only 30 mins drive from Wellington International Airport.
The 2 day event features a large classic and twinshock bike display (road and dirt) on the Saturday with the 'Mick Andrews Trial' expected to have between 50-60 classic & twinshock trials irons. A real mix of bikes from 500T Nortons to TL & TLR Hondas, Fantic, Montys, TYs, Bultaco, Tiger Cubs, Bantams, KTs, a Majesty and a bunch of OSSA 'Mick Andrews Replicas.'. That evening their is a dinner with the 2 International speakers and on Sunday a classic & twinshock Miniature TT (an Australian dirt track on grass). World Twinshock Champion Jimmy Aird will use a pair of CCM during the day (of 5-6 coming). Just over 40 British dirt bikes are expected as entries at the event with the balance of the twinshocks to be mainly Honda or Suzuki with plenty of a cross-section of Thumpers and a number of Maico and CZ mounts also. Introductions / GREETINGS FROM NZ
« on: January 04, 2011, 08:36:36 am »
I ride a Kawasaki KT 250 in twinshock trials and co-ordinate events for the lower North Island. Ran my first classic trial on Hutt River in 1991 and first Pre 75 scramble fun day. Ride a BSA 1971 Lightning 650 in classic road rally events. Have a 1971 B25MX in the shed my son ride for a few years, plus Jeff Smith on his 2008 visit to NZ. Bought a new BSA B50SS street scrambler on Dec 22nd 1972 and have been active in NZBSA Club since 1975. During 1973 became very interested in BSA B50MX and CCM machines and am running a twinshock meeting featuring many of these machine at Upper Hutt in Feb 26-27th. Am expecting over 40 British bikes on the track including 5-6 CCM machines, plus a pile of twinshock machines from around NZ. Former Works CCM rider will be on one. Mick Andrews former AJS-Matchless works rider will be on Works matchless 600 plus Rickman Metisse 600 (1968 motor one of the last 3 made at the factory). And arranging Mick Andrews 5 week NZ Tour. So pretty passionate about old off road bikes as you can see.
