I have found the internals to b the same the pin location matches the timing for the Different letter CDI just what i have found

Have a good look at the alignment hole on each different letter cover. 
The internal stator is the same for 78/79 not sure about 80

yes a teflon or white metal if the bronze is showing they worn out i have beeen trying to get some for mine for ages

82 was slghtly different to 81 but still fits the little cover is the different part so you need the cover from an 81 to fit the 81 cover to the 82 the 81 was aluminium and the 82 was mag most 81 are in good order

Colt fire arms use heated petrol as the final wash of there guns prior to blueing as it removes all trace of oil grime etc
