Competition / Re: Best Evo 125?
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:03:07 PM »
Come and buy my nice YZ125G .. Sunshine Coast, Very original bike but has had freshen up and complete rebuild before 2014 Nationals at Toowoomba.  Was leading evo 125 (with that young gun and top kid, Liam Beverly riding it) before seizing on the 2nd lap.  I've since honed the bore and put a NOS Yamaha piston and rings back in (removing the wiseco/siezco one originally provided by Serco).

For more details send me a PM :)
Mate. How many bikes have you got?

Why would he be way faster?
Because the 1980 YZ125 was the best bike that year and that's 3 years later than the RM125B. Back then, one year model change was WAY better than another. Even in the 80s if you tried to race the 125 into next year or the year after, good luck with that! I tried!

Surely the same guy on a YZ125G would be way faster than the RM125B in lap times on any track? I do like the 'can ride 2 different classes on one bike' angle tho

Got some shiny white bits arrive…a bit premature I know, but why not…Looking pretty. Shock will be finished this week. Swing arm next week. Need to order the s/arm and linkage bearings/seals. Forks have issues with internals. Bolts all in getting stripped and re-zinc'd. Need to find a Brisbane engine guy to help out with the bottom end/gearbox.

Raced the 87 CR with a big carb from DG and pipe/muffler from Pro Circuit. EASILY the fastest 125 I ever rode. You'll bloody love it. Super jealous.

Dirt Bike mag rated it #1 in its shootout, but mainly because it had good suspension and wasn't really crappy in any other area. I always thought the Honda was MILES better that year. Motocross Action agreed. Loads of mates with the RM125s had reliability issues, but can't say I knew anyone with the 250 to say one way or the other...

What didn't you like about the 125 H?

I was wondering the same thing about the 87 KX 125?

I just got off an '86 CR125! The KX was ok without being great. Should've stuck with the Hondas. The 87 CR125 was great and I did a couple of races on my brother's which had a bigger carb from DG and PC pipe and muffler - made my KX feel very slow.

What didn't you like about the 125 H?

All my mates went RM125X, but my brother had a deal on YZ80s, so went 125H. Didn't handle, wasn't fast, generally bad experience. Even worse tried a mate's RM and made my YZ seem even worse. The next year little bro was on Hondas, which wasn't a lot better for me.

No, not sure. I dropped it in to Beenleigh powdercoaters up here and asked them to weld another tag on to replace broken one (rear guard), sand blast and repaint same colour. Looks pretty close.

We all ran 540s (most of the time) back in NZ. Used to bulk buy them out of Aussie and we'd all take 4-5 each. There's a guy in Brisbane selling them (Shinkos) now.
