Yamaha / 77-79 yz 250 fuel tank differences
« on: March 18, 2014, 10:38:29 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm restoring my 1979 YZ250F... seems to be plenty of 77-78 repo fuel tanks around, but no 79 model tanks, I haven't seen them side by side, but look very similar, and look like the 77-78 would fit on the 79 model,

What are the differences?... capacity?... seems like an odd model for tanks  :-[

Thanks again guy's

Regards
Dave

Be good to know the engine #..Looks like a E-F engine to me,... if so wouldn't mind it for a spare engine to tinker with  8)

Yamaha / 79 yz250 tank strap?
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:55:13 PM »
Hi Guy's,

Just wanting to know if a tank strap off any other model YZ or IT etc. will fit a 79 yz250F, I have found a 77 yz 250 strap, looks like it could fit but as I don't have one to go off I thought I would ask

Thanks in advance

Thanks a bunch for the info Viper  ;)

I did hear they were the same, but wanted to confirm it, incase I needed different parts...anyway mine will be a race bike, not a concourse/show bike, the fact the frame number is different won't make a rats to me, I only want to race it

Yamaha / 1979 YZ 250 and YZ400 frame differences
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:20:11 AM »
Hi guy's

I just checked the numbers on my 1979 YZ250 frame, and it's a YZ400 number, is there any differences in the frames?, I have been told there isn't

Would this cause any dramas come time to race it in any classes , once I'm ready to race it, I haven't raced yet, so I just thought I would ask

Introductions / Hello VMXer's
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:29:59 AM »
Hi Guy's,

I''m Dave, grew up as a young bloke in the "EVO" era of motocross, started on mini bikes, a KV-75, my first sensation of speed was on a yz80H in 81 as a 12 year old, when the power kicked in the front wheel was up, and the back wheels spinning from side to side, and watery eyes. Vibration of the handbars etc.. I was in love,,, then moved to a YZ125G, YZ125K 1983 RM250, a few PE's and KDX's KX 500, and a bunch of 90's CR and YZ 250's, I started my young bloke on a RM80c, figured he would learn to feather the clutch to get it up on the power ( no power down low or out of tight corners etc), and enjoy the rush of it up top on power, plus learn how to check his plug, and maintain, it, he tell me now it was so much fun to ride, and now loves his cr's and yz's and is a motocross nut

I use to live next to Amaroo raceway in Sydney in the early 80's, always walked across to watch Mr Motocross, with the crowd gathered in the rocks around the track, loved watching Steven Gall on the  Air cooled Yz250's,  always had a soft spot for Air cooled YZ's so I have just purchased a YZ250F, looking forward to getting up to speed and doing some VMX events for some fun, seeing how unfit I am nowadays...... and checking out all the bikes from a great era in motocross

Regards
Dave
