Competition / Air striker pwk for pre 85?
« on: November 13, 2020, 08:19:34 PM »
I think a pwk carb is now legal in the pre 85 class. Is the air striker version legal? A lot of the chinese knockoffs seem to be air strikers. Thanks.

Maico / Bing main jet sizes
« on: January 15, 2019, 05:44:41 PM »
Can anyone tell me if bing main jets are rated by size or flow? Is a 185 main for example a 1.85mm orifice?

Thanks

Competition / Evo stuff?
« on: November 19, 2018, 09:49:34 AM »
At the seemingly high risk of starting a storm in a stubby holder...… :-)

Can I get some perspective on the current rules for a couple of things in Evo?

1. Are keihin PWK's now legal? It seems they are??

2. What's the story with Twin Leading Shoe (TLS) brakes? If the technology is ok in principal are there restrictions on the actual brake hardware that may be used?

Is it worth me contacting someone like Dave Tanner and asking? By worth it I mean would it carry any weight at the track if my bike made someone unhappy?

Thanks guys and please try really really hard not to behave like donald trump. (I kid!!)

Maico / '81 490 gearbox ratios
« on: November 03, 2018, 08:51:42 AM »
Can anyone tell me the difference between the close ratio mx gearbox (RT?) and the wide ratio enduro box (GT?). The ratios for the mx box are easy to find but I can't find any info on the enduro box. Is it an easy job to convert to an mx box? Cheers.

Bike Transport / UK to Oz

Anyone here have recent experience with buying a bike in the UK and freighting it to Australia? I've seen some very tempting rides but I don't know if its a realistic option to bring one here (Perth). Any and all advice appreciated. Cheers.

CZ / Installing shift plate & top cover
« on: September 11, 2018, 07:56:05 PM »
Help!

I'm trying to install new shift forks in a '72 5 speed 250. The engine is in the frame and I have the top cover off.

When I assemble it, it won't shift gears, I get only one or two.

Not knowing CZ's from my arse it seems like I'm having a problem synchonising the shift ratchet with the position of the shift plate.

Can anyone give me some tips on positioning the shift plate and what the go is with the shift ratchet?

Ta.

Maico / Wanted: '81 Maico 490 top out springs
« on: February 24, 2017, 03:25:35 PM »
Hi,

Would anyone have a pair of front fork rebound/top out springs for a 1981 Maico 490 they could sell me? I'm after the long soft pair not the short stiff ones.

Thanks, Ralph

Maico / '74 shock length
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:21:03 AM »

Can anyone tell me the stock eye to eye shock length on a 1974 400 maico? The one with the shocks moved forward.

Is it best to stick with that length with replacement shocks?

Cheers

Can anyone give me some guidance on what cranks will fit a 323 series Maico 400, the '75 5 speed model. Will cranks from 73, 74 and 75 4 speed engines fit?

Thanks, Ralph

Maico / '73 vs '74.5 Maico 400
« on: July 02, 2016, 10:38:22 PM »
Hi,

Can you mob set me straight on the major differences between a '73 and a '74.5 Maico 400? I know the shocks are moved forward on the '74.5. I have a suspicion the 73 has less travel in the forks and the gearbox is not as sturdy but I could be completely wrong.  :)

Any other significant differences?

Thanks, Ralph

Tech Talk / Any restrictions on pre-75 tyre size?
« on: December 07, 2014, 04:29:18 PM »
A buddy of mine was telling me that too wide a rear tyre can be ruled illegal in the pre75 class. I can't find any indication of this in the rule book. So..

1) Is he right, are there any tyre restrictions? If so is a 110/100x18 legal?

2) While I've got your attention, are 17in and 19in rims legal too?

Cheers.
