Suzuki / backfires on start up.

last weekend had a problem, starting to back fire on the way back to the car. an would die with anything more than half throttle. suspected it to be a blown head gasket made sense when i took it home an one of the head nuts was starting to come loose. pulled it down clean everything up. re-anealed the head gasket an put it back on. put bike back together an went to kick start it. same problem. except it wouldnt start. just loud backfires. plenty of spark to the plug when kicked over. i am stumped any help? is it possible for the timing to shift. you wouldnt think it was the flywheel as i had a new one installed a year ago. bad batch of fuel?? it was from a failry big BP an is 98. spark plug? dunno its a new plug?

is there a cure for the pinging that happens at the end of 5th gear? this is the only time it pings. running it with the b9egv plug. have ran it with the b8egv an from memory it didnt ping. but im scared to use the hotter plug just incase it melts the piston.

was just wondering how a old 2 stroke will go with a modern day carb. carbys have come along way in 30 years when it come with cars. do 2 stroke act the same or would you have to get the ports matched to suit. or is that only if you intend to go bigger

Original PE 400 pipe in good cond. only one ding on bottom of header section.
muffler is a bit rattly inside other than that in decent cond too. $250
rear shocks one in good working order. one is blown out. $50
+ postage & handling. can supply pics if needed.
also am looking for pe 400 exhaust manifold. must be in good cond.

Suzuki / 80` PE drive hub

wanting to re-pack the bearings in the drive hub on the PE, there are two that are together. which way are they suppose to come out. through the inside of the drum or are they suppose to come out on the out side of the hub. do i need a special tool. have been using a flat head screw driver an have been carefully taping around the diameter of the bearings but havnt had any movement in them. dont want to go to hard on them as i dont really want to destroy them. any tips would be appreciated. cheers.

hello vintage iron lovers... thought id do the right thing an intro myself. im damian. thought this was the forum for me. an by the user name you prob already guessed i got a old suzuki pe. anyways its always good to talk to members who have more experience with them than me. recently just got back into the dirt bike scene after a 10 year break. didnt stray away from the bikes just took up roadies for a while. now im back an eager to learn about my old girl as there isnt much info out there for them.
