I pinched this image from a Vintage Iron web-page called "Honda Heaven". The caption says that it is an '81 RC500 . Except for the alloy tank & the coke-bottle shaped swingarm , it doesn't look that much different from the '82 CR480 RC .

try as I might I find lots of mention of Andre Malherbe etc but bugger all piccys!  Lots available of 77 and thereabouts and 84 but big hole in between.

well i just got an 81 rc 500 tank and swing arm for my 82 and im wondering how much other bits were cosmetically differnt

the arm is a novation racing one im waiting for the tank to land from the us

Theres some features in recent VMX's isn't there.
Tank , arm ,shock ,forks are noted differeneces.
There was a MC news article on Cuttsies title winning Mugen bike if someone has an old copy.
