Title: Hot Laps at Rocksberg on a YZ125 H 1981
Post by: Ji Gantor on October 05, 2009, 09:19:54 pm
The YZ125 H is now working quite well.
The power was right and it now blasts off the line.
I am still getting used to extracting all the power but we are now on the same side.

The footage was taken via my new Go Pro 5 helmet camera and it went well.
The camera was mounted on top of my helmet and I will try side mounting as well as time goes by.

Attached is a link to part 1 of the first practise session on Sunday morning after the course officials changed the track to reduce dust.
It was very overcast in the morning and that is why the footage is a bit dull.

Hi Jackie,
Keeping in mind the heat and time of year and that there has been so many events this year Yes there was a great turn out.
Trevor's Committee stepped down on Saturday night and new blood was voted in.
On Saturday there were quite a few riders picking up their bikes after over cooking gullies or corners but I was not one of them. I nearly went over the bars twice on Saturday. The first time was when I was lining 731 up for a pass and he performed a brake check at the top of a jump and the other time was when a rider in front of me was too hard on the rear brake at the end of the straight and slid down into the gully right in front of me. Both times I was on the gas and on my YZ490 K.

Glenn Bell paid us a visit on Saturday which was real nice.
Maico 31 roosted all on Saturday on his Mega 2.
Brad 090 was very fast on his Pre 90 CR500.
Brad's mate was fast on Brad's Pre 85 CR480.
I hope I don't get this wrong but we had 3 ladies blasting around the track with the blokes.
We all learned heeps on Saturday night at the AGM, like
The Ambulance costs $1400.00 a day for an event.
We were told about the new track Tambo way which I named "Battered Sab" (because I can not prenounce it properly).
I have the jetting on my YZ125 H perfect.
The helmet camera works great.
It was hot on Saturday reaching 33 degs C and very dusty.
Sunday was much cooler and with the track change there was a lot less dust.
I think that is about it, just a great weekend of practising with our VMX bikes getting ready for next year.

I mean I could write it up as an article going something like this;
The dry air made every sound more hightened as the trailer rattled over the cattle grate past the peacocks as the fourwheel drive laboured up the rutted trail.

But the facts are the facts as mentioned above.

Sounds very interesting Robert, maybe you should take up writing, you do tell a good story. So who is the President of QVMX then, I can't imagine the club without the same old crew.

Keep Smiling :)

Sorry Jackie but I don't know the names of the new committee.
They were all new faces to me.

I have written many articles for fly fishing magazines over the years. At this stage I am inpatient of editors funny little games. As AC DC wrote "Its an long way to the top if you want to rock and roll" So at this time I will stick to "How to Catch Bass on Fly" or what ever, which I hope to be doing real soon now the racing season is nearly over.

I hope we will see you snapping your glorious shotz next year.

Hi Oldfart,
The ground was certainly HARDPACK.
On the first few laps as I flew down into each gully I had to stop to see if my tyres were flat. The front felt like the tyre was trying to roll off the rim. There were a few flat tyres and Peter G blew out the front as he dived into a gully, this sent Peter over the bars. As the grass was cleared away by spinning wheels the rocks elevated to the surface, some small enough to be pelted at my helmet camera while the larger ones remained like iceburgs in the ground kicking the suspension in awkward directions.

I went as fast as I could but in the back of my mind I sure did not want to get too friendly with the ground.

Yeah I would have to say that Rocksberg is no place for a Garage Princess.
Don't be taking your fully restored bike to this place or Mr T will be tellen yah to "Get Some Nuts"

Ji, who owns #R61, the RM 250B? I passed this bike going down the highway on Sunday morning near Shailer Park.
I didn't recognise the number.

Yeah you are right. Not the best track, which was a shame as it is a great venue. All the rain change the landscape and as we couldn't get on due to rain it was overgrown as well.

Thanks Paul, congratulations on the new committee, yes they are big shoes to fill, but I'm sure you will all fill them, as if they were made to order.  Now Trev and the crew, can get on their bikes and really enjoy some of the fun.  By Brad and Simon would I be correct in assuming that you mean Brad Van barrelo and Simon Broad, if so, I'm sure we can expect some pretty awsome tracks from these guys 8).

Keep Smiling :)

I have just been rooting around in the Gantor video flash drives and found some footage of the Nationals that Jimmy Sparks took. I will upload the video onto You Tube and let all know where to find it.
