I have just picked up a Yamaha 250 motor, eng No IW5 002518.
Can anyone tell me what it is please?

if its 1W5 it should be an IT250D

Don't know a lot about Yam dirt bikes, does the IT have a magnesium clutch cover and no oil pump and CDI?

Funny that this thread got going because i was about to ask the same question. I picked up a IT250 tonite and the frame prefix is 1W5 too. ;D
