Got a problem with my 74 DT 360 A it wants to break my leg when it backfires when starting.
Set the timing correct.
Started it twice with out a problem then it started firing to early again.
Do i need to have a battery connected?.
Any ideas?. ???

Replace the whole ignition with the CDI igntion from a DT400C and your problems solved.

some of these old bikes the marks on both flywheel and/or stator plate can be hard to read if not downright invisible.
get the motor running, then check timing again with a timing light for better accuracy.
if the problem still exists after that, then we move onto the next step.
i'm running a DT400d CDI on my RT1 and it's set to 3mm BTDC if thats any help.

Are you running a battery in your bikes. Cyclegod and Vandy.

I'm running a PVL ignition in mine.

no battery required.
i've removed the lighting coil from the stator plate as it's not needed.
works a treat.
but you'll probably need a battery on hand to power your timing light.
