Looks like the top from an early PE switch or possibly an RH250. The wire colours don't look familiar though so..nope..no idea sorry Pete ;D

If that is a soft rubber cover over a button it is very much the same as one on a TF100x I have.

EDIT: Had a look at the TF in the light. Not TF

I have never seen a PE of any model or year, with a black kill switch.
However, I have seen JR50's, RM50's etc. with black.
Perhaps this is off one of those, or one of the 'farm bike' types?
Very curious!

suzuki mainly used black with white and black with yellow wires for the switch. As i said before one of my PE's had a genuine black kill button, but it was different to this one. it didnt have a metal ring, it was just a one piece rubber cover over the whole lot with a 'S' in the middle.

Luke the '77 PE250B had the black killswitch buttons ;)

Leith I have seen the higher rubber over type you mention also but I'm not sure what model they were on, they are ones that are very similar to the early RH items I've seen :-\

I just purchased a nice red '78 JR50 switch from the US, $6.99 + $8 postage (under $20au delivered) it's for the TS/TM, close enough for me regardless of colour 8)

Witches-hat style? - no. I have never seen a PE ( of T-or-later ) with a black switch.
Also, his switch has weird wiring colours - blue and red, which is also wrong according to all the PE wiring diagrams. It just seems an odd-ball thing to me.

The early PE's shared the RM kill switch - the flat one with the serrated chrome base. I have only seen red on PE's, but the JR50 was the exact same one - in black. If you have seen one on an early RM or PE, then heck, happy to be told that!

This is as enthralling as footpegs  ;D

Maybe we should just leave the kill switch origins where it is, I don't really care what it's off, it's just been in my box of goodies for a while so I thought an id would be helpfull, afterall, the topic of kill switches was alive and well on the forum at the time.... I want it to develop into another footpeg sarga.
Although it's great to have input from many quarters

i have seen 2 or 3 different kill switches listed in 77-79 PE parts books. There wasnt only one type used.

Just had a thought.Im pretty sure its a English BSA switch. A65's and Bantam Bushmans had one that looks very much like the suzuki switches and had a black buttion, but its a little hard to tell from the blury photo.

 :D Too late now Pete! you've created a monster :D :D

Luke take a look at the Revs Magazine issue with the PE250B's in the Across Oz for $20000 issue..it shows the black  switches on the Aussie model ;) I also stated the red/blue wiring is wrong in the original picture posted and it's similar to the PE/RH item..bottom line was "I have no idea"  :-\ this is the JR50 item I just purchased for under $20, a bit secondhand but eh, it matches the rest of the bike ::) footpegs and killswitches, topics just don't get anymore enthralling :D

only prob with the JR item is you need to run a separate earth to the frame or risk a nice shock in the wet and/or possible switch failure on larger machines due to bad earthing through the steering head bearings which is not at all desirable for the bearing or for the functionality of the said switch.

now ive had another look at the original pic, i realise the BSA switch looks more like what Doc posted but with black button and not a ribbed ring, just smooth. The photo at the top of this thread shows a more cone shaped button. i will drag out some of my switches in a few days for some photos.
