Post by: jimson on September 06, 2009, 10:24:15 pm
G'day viewers just would like to know the dt400 twin shock frame will a dt1 1971 engine bolt straight into the 400 frame and if so would it be pre 75 legal I think the frame is the last of the twin shock before the mono.jimson

No, the engine mounts are different. Definitely the rear mounts and 90% the front are different as well.

probably not as the DT400 was not considered a carry over model to the DT360
and is there for not able to run pre75 as as a DT400,

I'd argue that the DT400 frame is an acceptable pre-75 carry-over frame, as its basicaly identical to the DT250/360A frame.

If you wanted to be really picky, the DT250/400Cs had some extra brackets that the As did not (I don't know whether the Bs had them). A few minutes with the angle grinder would easily turn a C frame into an A frame.

if you did a good job of chopping the earlier motor into the 400 frame the only real way to tell the difference would be from the frame number on the headstock.
the dt400 frame in my opinion is the same as the earlier pre~75 frames.
balls in your court jimson :)
i'd have no worries to do it if it were me.

Hi ,
The reason this class is called pre 75, is because its for those bikes ( or bits ) that were made pre 75,
DT 400 does  is not and never will be a pre 75 bike no matter how much time or money  you spend on it.
Retro engineering is not permitted.
don't use the forum as an excuse when you are told you will be riding in the pre 78 class.

Someone wants to run a DT shitbox trail bike and this is the official response/position? ::) :P :-\ :o(http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn458/mx250syd/funnies/dog-1.gif)

If you ever want to dissuade participants and turn it into an insignificant, incestuous, elitist, self centered, self satisfied, irrelevant, 'destined to die' aberration of motorcycling that sure is the policy that will achieve the aim ;) ::).

DT400B is not Pre 75 legal.
I had one for a while and hoped that I might get away with it too..............  :D But I was advised (rightly so) that it is a completely new model to the 360 and therefore not eligible for the carry-over rule.

That's getting pretty pedantic - its' a new model, new capacity, using the old chassis. This rider wants to use the chassis. If the chassis is the same why not use it?

if you want to use a "DT400 shitbox trail bike" , as mx250 says , as a vmxer,
use it in the 78 class, no worries there.

Oh, FFS - you're not serious are you?

Nonsense like that helps nobody, and creates confusion. I expected better from you (and that wasn't meant to sound like you're 10 years old and I'm your parent... :-[ ).

A complete DT400 is NOT pre-75 legal, and nobody has said that it would be. If you're trying to claim that a visually and operationally identical part that happens to be made in 1975 or 76 is not acceptable, then EVERY bike is illegal, and the sport will be dead in the water as soon as you try to enforce it.

Yes, I am annoyed.
