I would have to say that the M is rarer, simply because the S was a kitted M when sold as new, but existing M owners could buy the kit to upgrade their bikes to the S spec very easily.

My Opinion only, The S was quite popular in OZ but quite rare in USA, Th e S is the on you want as the M was pretty close spec to the TM.. but i believe with lay down shocks. the S soon followed with some other changes like the 34mm mikuni ths A then went back to the 32mm surprise surprise.

I honestly don't know, but I think I've seen more S models than Ms, although hard to say if those S's were real ones or kitted M's. That said, the M and S are very similar. I think they are the same frame and running gear and bodywork. The differences are what? Cylinder porting, big carb, pipe? The M was quoted at 23 HP and the S at 26, so there wasn't a lot in it really.

see the file M_vs_S.txt  for a detailed discussion on the differences.
I cannot now remember where I found it, but it is good.

i think the m is rarer i have only seen four original ones ,the one graeme has ,and i have one and i have seen two around rhe traps. there is another difference that no body picks up on other than eng mods.fuel tank is different and frame is also.no cdi mount on frt frame and air box mounting points are different.i still like both they are the only two bikes that i will never sell.

There you go, I didn't know there were that many differences. I agree, they are a great little bike to ride, and I think they look good too. Not sure what it is that I like so much. They aren't especially fast, but they feel nice to ride. Steer nice, handle well, very predictable and so on. Mine has fresh seat foam and decent suspension and it's quite a pleasure on the track.

I have a S and it probably rides similar to what they say about the M, seems simple and light to ride. I guess for the sake of rebuilding the M in your case - you would be restoring the first model RM that suzuki ever made....

Rebuild both, few people could claim to have both a restored M and S model RM125  ;)

Given the choice Doc I would have the M, there are a lot more differences than you think but when its all said they were one of those quirky foll ins that appeals to me.

I have an M tank on my TM125 (center fill cap), nice....
