I need a set of new tyres for my DT 250a. Does anyone make or supply the block tread pattern tyres that were fitted to most trail bikes back in the day. I've looked at trials tyres but there're a bit soft.

VeeRubber through most bike shops - about $80.

I'm pretty sure Kenda make one. I've got one on my DT1 that Doc found for me back in 05. The bike's in storage so I can't immediately check.

kenda does 4.oox18 and a 21 kings also do same size 07 38216777

yeah 400's are pretty easy to get but not 450's.

I think that tyre was a Cheng Shin 3.25x19 (C186?) universal Firko. Availability seems almost 0 nowdays. I'm going to be hunting the same thing myself very soon although preferably a 3.50 which makes it even rarer ::)

Will post details here if I stumble onto more than 1 of anything in a half decent size ;)

Ive got both a kenda and Cheng shin 400 x 18 in my garage, which one do you want?,
cheers

Try Bruce Collins Enterprises in Melbourne (ask for Bruce). They sell Heidenau and IRC. Might have something.

Choice is limited, particularly on a 19 inch size. Among the moderns, there's the Avon Distanzia or the slightly older / more aggressive-looking Continental TKC 80 series, which is also available in a 19 front

(These look very good, even on 60s street-scramblers, and are excellent on the road).
New 19" Dunlop trials universals are available here for example,

While this place

lists a few alternative too, including this

Don't know whether this one is any good for you Doc?

Apologies that this is UK based mostly, but it might give you a lead to chase up

The 19" Continentals are available here in Oz to go onto the front wheel of BMW F650GS 's
-
Fit a decent 19 rear Doc im in. closs to the Michilin X series the better
the dun;lop is a shitty speedway copy so no good, the Continental looks ok if that rear is 19" might get issue over proving its trials not a claw pattern ad the blocks dont run in lines, but worth the chance to try em.

Had a look at Mcleods website, and they distribute Chen Shin tyres which appear to have a trail tyre with the sort of tread pattern I'm looking for.
-
I think the only block pattern tyres you will get nowdays will be Trials tyres. If you intend on riding the bike on the tar don't fit them as it feels like you are riding with a flat ,no matter how much you pump them up. I recently fitted a set of Vee Rubber trials tyres to my XL250 Motosport to keep that "original look" and rode a total of 10km and will not ride again until I change them.

Thats the same casting as the dunlop trial universal even same sips and direction. But i cant find that pattern over 3.00 in a 19" would need 3.5 as a min, 4.00 same as the 4.00 x 18 they sell would be awsome. its not the C186 that no come in 19 and its a small front open tread.
the new speedways have a tall edge, but the older ones the tread comes over the side, maybe the an early speedway might have enough on the side knobs, but still may have th eissue with the walls and knob structure.
Keep looking, post if you turn somthign up..
