Can anybody give me some details on the 450 of '76. A chap has one that i have seen which he assures me it is a 450. Would this be considered a rare bike in OZ? Were there many imported here? The chap feels it is worth a squillion dollars. Do you think he is right? Any info on this bike for my curiosity and the owner would be appreciated. Cheers.

090 i would PM Firko if i were you, 450 doesn't sound like a maico capacity ? but i am no expert.

Pretty sure it would be AW400, Ive got 77 AW400 that has cost a zillion dollars, what its worth and what u get are two different things though, guess it depends lot on condition ;)

I actually have a pamphlet which advertises the AW 250, 400 and 450 as well. I think you guys would also be interested to know more maybe? I will wait for a reply here for all to read.

For some dumb reason the Americans recristened the 440s as 450s. The AW450 is actually an AW440 and isn't especially rare. They're a good thing though and probably worth $3,500-$5000 for a good one and less for a fixer upper which isn't quite the squillion the owner reckons it's worth. Below is a link to two 77 AW brochures, one from America showing the bike as a 450, the other a German bochure showing the same 438cc bike as a 440. Maicojames in Texas just sold his lovely 440 (see earlier post on Sept 15).

Well there you go! Easy as that! The owner will be disapointed! Thank you sir.

But Brad, it might be a" Wheelsmith Factory Works" 125,250, and 450cc replica ridden once by the factory guys and thrown in the trash at Carlsbad in a fit of drunken rage by Adloph Weil.
...or maybe not

Bike on homepage is a nice 76 AW440, though it does have a polished tank Firko ;D
