Post by: 52 on August 14, 2009, 04:45:27 pm
does anyone know how to ID DT1 wheels-pre-70 type. I assume RT-1 same. Particully rear.

They're all the same except the early bikes had 19" front rim, and the RT2MX / DT2MX have the later conical hub.
DT250/360A also have the same wheels.

So are the full width pre 70 or can you use pre 75 conical hubs as a carry over

Interesting question, Freaky.

The conical hubs (322 prefix) weren't seen until the RT2MX of 1972 (I think it was '72 - definitely after 1970).

Logically, this means that they're NOT a legal part for pre-70 - however, I've wondered whether the eligibility allowance for 'All RT1 fitted with non-reed valve' means that you could front up with an RT2MX with an earlier barrel, and be good to go?

I've been running the full-width hub because there's no question about legality, they're cheaper and the brakes are great. And because I'm buggered if I can feel the weight difference.
