Title: YZ490 1983
Post by: Ji Gantor on August 11, 2009, 09:31:41 am
Hi all,
I lost a part from my bike at the Nationals and was hoping someone may be able to sell me one.
I need the retaining nut for my kick starter.

I would also like to retro fit the YZ490 1983 leading edge front brake to my YZ125 1981 if any body has the front brake assembly they would like to sell.

Thanks
Ji

nuts are readily available new for the 465/490,  , which brake plate do u want ? 490 has horizontal lug , 465 has 45deg   , i think the 15 might have 45deg ?

Hi IMS,
I rang Yamaha yesterday and they only have one of those nuts left in Japan and if I want it, it will cost $115.00.
I can get a standard nut from a bolt company but it will not be flanged nor nickelled.

I will check to see what angle is required today and let you know. Do you have a 465 brake assembly for sale ?

Thanks
Ji

The front brake assembly is at 45 degs so yes the 465 front brake is the go.

I don't mean to hijack Ji's thread, however I'm also after a DL edge front brake set up to suit the '81 YZ125H hub.
Guys, which other models apart form the 465 will suit so I know what to keep an eye out for?
If there are any others for sale after Ji gets his, please let me know.

Hi
I think I have a spare TLS plate. I get back to Bris. Tues. Could probably machine up a nut-for  beer? wont be  plated but can be blued and hardened.
Will look when I get back.

Hi Ji,
I have a YZ490 backing plate that I bought from the states for my YZ465 but it doesn't fit as it has the 45 degree angle. It doesn't have any brake arms or linkage rod. Any good to you? I'm still chasing the correct one for the 465 if you happen to come across one.
Pete.

Hi Yamaico (Pete),
I am trying to get a backing plate with all the extras so thanks for your offer.

Hi Sa63,
Is the TLS plate you mention the brake backing plate?
If so I am interested please let me know when you get home.
The nut I can buy from a fastener company for 95 cents but it is not flanged nor coated. If no one has a genuine Yami one I will just buy one of these and save the problems.

Did you find a nut yet?

These guys say if it you can add it your cart, then they have it their in stock....$3.87us

http://www.nwvcp.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx

They also have an ebay shop and their shipping is realistic.

not too sure if this is any godd and it will also need a little welding done on the cable lug.

Hi Vandy,
That is for a YZ490 I think.
Thanks for the heads up that would have been great value.

Thanks Paul,
I can not see the nut in that pile.
The nut is shiny nickle and has a flange like an attached washer.
It is also a half thickness nut.

That brake on ebay is a 1982 yz 490 and on.

490 locating slot at almost 90deg from arm cams as per ebay picture.

465 slot up near top arm
(http://www.wetworks.com.au/bin/465.jpg)

IT's kept with the ealier type but had steel arms instead of alloy

Hi TwoTees,
That is right.
What I require is the YZ465 brake backing plate because the YZ125H has the slot at 45 degs.

Thanks mate

The 95 cent one is looking pretty good at this stage or from that US Web site TwoTees put me on to.

Gidday Ji,

Mate, I think someone is pulling your chain in relation to the kick starter nut.  I bought one just recently for the 465 and the 250.  Both were less than $10 each.  I'm sure another part number would do the job.  The One for the 250 is zinc plated, the 465 is blued (?)  If you want I can get the part numbers for you.

I have in my possession an IT brake plate with cams, arms and rods but no shoes. It is the same as 465 but the arms are steel. There may be other differences that I am unaware of.
It actually belongs to mate. Let me know if this interests you and I will ask him if he wants to part with it.

Hi YZ250H,
That would be great.
The nut off my 490 was nickled but blued would be fine.
The Yami dealer was Team Moto Yamaha here in Brisbane.
I purchase a lot of old parts from them and they are normally very good. They checked their computer to see which other dealers in Australia had the nut and none came back.

Look forward to hearing from you

Caught up with my mate today and he's happy to let it go provided it doesn't leave him short. He has a 465 in boxes under his house so he wants to double check that he has one for that project.
Bear with him for a day or two until he checks.
Cheers, Chris

OK Ji,

I've been over at the Yamaha parts catalog.  It says even though the kick shaft is different for the 465H, 250H and 490K the nut is the same thing.  Are you asking for part number 90179-12244-00 ?
A bit odd that I have got 2 in the last few months.  I'm just not that lucky to have bought 2 of the last 3 in existence.

4 available here at $3 something.  There postage is always very cheap and on your doorstep in 10 days for sure.  You may have to take pot luck on wether it is silver colour plated or black.

http://www.nwvintagecycleparts.com/search-results.php?q=90179-12244-00&st=spart&search.x=6&search.y=9

Hope that helps - remember to share and don't buy all of them  ;) ;D

And don't forget the locktight next time - don't worry that's why I needed to buy them as well ::)

Ha ha ha
I saw it on this topic "cleaning up zinc and cad bolts"
MX250 said "My guess would be Maori loctite = rust"

I don't know what it is, it just sounds funny.

Thanks for all your help.
I went to Gaythorne Yamaha today and asked another sales person to see if they can get that nut.
Yes they can for only $7.00.
Pam must have been on something when I asked.

Two nuts are now on their way.
Yahooooo

Okay.

It went straight onto the YZ125 H.
No modifications required.
And what braking power, fantastic.
Well worth the effort.

Thanks guys
